But welcome to the show for the very first time. Courtney. Welcome, Courtney, welcome.

[00:04:06] Speaker C: Yeah, we're so happy to have you. We're excited to chat with you about sailing on a duo cruise on the Disney fantasy. I mean, there's really nothing better than getting to go to. I'm wearing, of course, a castaway 5k shirt today, and I was wearing my lookout key shorts actually, just yesterday. So it's kind of timely for that topic. But before we, of course, dive into talking about your actual cruise. We got to talk a little bit about your Disney background, your cruising background. I understand that you are a travel advisor.
Tell us, like, what got you into Disney and then how you became a travel advisor.
[00:04:44] Speaker A: I grew up as a Disney kid. My parents took me to Disney when I was a year old to Walt Disney World. And I went back every summer with, give or take a few, probably until my twenties, and then I started going more than once a year.
In 2018, my husband Corey and I got married at Walt Disney World.
And then in 2022 we started cruising and we've been on four now, so love it.
[00:05:14] Speaker C: Now where, where at Walt Disney World did you get married?
[00:05:18] Speaker A: At the Grand Floridian. At the wedding pavilion.
[00:05:20] Speaker C: At the pavilion.
[00:05:21] Speaker A: And then we had our reception in Epcot.
[00:05:23] Speaker C: Oh, oh my God, that would be so fun. Where in Epcot do they do receptions?
[00:05:27] Speaker A: We did.
It was when Illuminations was still happening and we did like a fireworks dessert party in the Italy Pavilion.
[00:05:34] Speaker C: Oh my God, that would be so cool. I love that. What a great.
I love a Disney wedding.
We've, you know, we just had Scott and Emily on recently talk about their vow renewal on Disney Cruise Line. We're talking about doing a vow renewal on Disney Cruise Line in maybe a couple of years. And so but I love, I love a Disney wedding. I love seeing all the pictures and the Mickey shaped foods and whatnot.
[00:05:58] Speaker B: I think Illuminations is the only dessert party we've done for fireworks at, at World.
[00:06:03] Speaker C: I think you're, I think you're right, Brian. I think that is.
[00:06:06] Speaker B: We did, we did a night. Didn't we do like a, a late night at Hollywood Studios? But we stopped or. No, we did the dessert party. It was pre cruise. It was pre. One of our cruises. We sat outside of keg. Not keg, Encompass. That's the cruise line one. But whatever it is. The UK Pavilion.
[00:06:20] Speaker C: Rosen. Rosen Crown. Yeah, that's what it's called, right? Yeah. And the England. Yeah. Pavilion. Yeah. No, I, I, I love that. That's super fun. All right, so four cruises.
Tell us, which of the ships have you been on and what made you decide to sail on the fantasy for this cruise?
[00:06:37] Speaker A: We started on the dream and then our next one was the Wish. Last summer we did the magic and then this summer was the fantasy.
We really liked the dream and we love the itinerary. So we had to get on the fantasy.
[00:06:52] Speaker C: Yeah, I love it. All right, well, so you're making your way through the classes. I love it. You got your fourth class cruising Your fourth ship. I like, I like the, you know, trying to check off those boxes too. Now, the itinerary you chose was. I mentioned a duo dip. How many nights when I say a duo dip, for those who haven't listened to our show before, that means you're going to. It used to be this thing called a double dip where you went to Cast Away Key twice, but then when Lookout Key came on the scene, one of our listeners actually coined it the duo dip. And so now that is forever going to be known as the duo dip if you go to Castaway and look out on the same cruise. But yeah. So how many nights was this one, Courtney?
[00:07:36] Speaker A: This was a five night. It was actually a double duo. We went to Castaway twice and look out once.
[00:07:41] Speaker C: It was amazing.
A double duo dip is the best kind of duo dip.
There's like no better itinerary. Wow. On a five night, you got two nights.
[00:07:53] Speaker B: Wait, which, which island did you hit? Twice.
[00:07:55] Speaker A: Cast Away twice.
[00:07:56] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[00:07:57] Speaker C: I love that. Oh my God. Okay, now I assume you had been to Castaway.
Had you been to Lookout before?
[00:08:04] Speaker A: Yes, we had been to both.
[00:08:05] Speaker C: Okay, so you were like, you knew what you're getting into. Now tell us, who are you traveling with?
[00:08:11] Speaker A: It was my husband, Corey, and then our two kids, Cameron, who's 5, and then Kade, who is 3.
[00:08:16] Speaker C: Now I'm imagining that part of why you're choosing this itinerary, the private islands, has to do with your family makeup. I mean, little kids.
[00:08:24] Speaker A: Absolutely.
[00:08:25] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:08:25] Speaker A: Yeah. It was just perfect. It was so easy with them. And it was, it was a no brainer. We had to, had to pick that itinerary.
[00:08:33] Speaker C: I love it. I love it. Well, and you had been on the Dream before, did you have any sort of expectations or goals of like, things you wanted to do that on the fantasy, that maybe you hadn't felt like you had gotten to, you know, sort of check off on the Dream?
[00:08:48] Speaker A: We really wanted to do the Midship detective Agency again.
We wanted to do mini golf. We did not do that with two little ones. It just, it didn't happen.
But yeah, just some of those things that you can only get on the Dream Class ship we were excited about.
[00:09:03] Speaker C: Yeah, love that. Now, how far in advance did you head to the Orlando area? You were traveling on out of Port Canaveral on the Fantasy, correct?
[00:09:12] Speaker A: Yes.
We arrived the day before. We took advantage of Walt Disney World's water park, your check in day. And so we, we, we did that the day before and stayed at Bay Lake Tower. And then the next day we left for the cruise.
[00:09:28] Speaker C: I love it. So DVC owners, then I take it if you're staying at Bay Lake at the Contemporary, that's a great. I think it's a great option to do that water park day, especially if you're just. If you only have like one day and you don't have annual passes. We don't have annual passes anymore because we just don't go to the parks enough to make it make sense right now. But I think it's a great benefit for, you know, if you're staying at the resort and you get the one day at the water park and then you. Because you don't have like a full day, of course, if you're flying in and then you leaving on the cruise the next morning.
[00:10:02] Speaker A: And we actually added parks and water park at the end of the cruise as well. So we just made it a nice, long, nice, long trip.
[00:10:10] Speaker C: Nice. All right, well, okay, so you head down there. You are there overnight.
How did you get to the port from Bay Lake Tower? We drove.
[00:10:20] Speaker A: So we just took our car and parked in the parking garage and.
[00:10:24] Speaker C: Super easy. Super easy. I love that. Now tell us, what boarding group did you get and about what time did you end up, like, getting to the port?
[00:10:33] Speaker A: We got boarding group 17 and our port arrival time was 12:45. I think once we got everything, we. We probably got there around 1. But yeah, that was. We really didn't have to wait very long once we got to the terminal.
[00:10:47] Speaker C: Awesome. I love that. Now tell us, did you book anything in advance? Like you. So you guys are silver cruisers. So you're in not the last group to book on board activities, but the second to last group. The last group is the newbies. The next group, the second to last group is silver, followed by, you know, and then gold is right before that and platinum's before that and then pearl, and then of course, concierge is the first to book. Tell us, like, were there things like were you looking for, you know, Apollo brunch or a Remy dinner or you got little ones? So I'm, I'm, I'm guessing you weren't booking a ton of things, but sometimes people want to book, you know, some excursions at Castaway or things like that. Were the things you guys were looking to book in advance?
[00:11:29] Speaker A: We tried to book Palo brunch, but with only one sea day and us being silver, we. We didn't get it. And by the time we got on the ship, I didn't figure there was any point we were probably too far gone to get to go on that wait list. But we did do the pirate makeover for both of our kids at the Bibbidi Boppity Boutique, and they loved it.
[00:11:50] Speaker C: Oh, fantastic. That's such a great thing to be able to book. I think people, like. I think people don't realize, like, how much not every kid. But kids who like to dress up seem to love those. Not just the Princess and the prince makeover, but the pirate makeover. I actually think the pirate makeover is, like, even more fun.
[00:12:10] Speaker A: So my son loved it. It was. He would see people in the hallway and be like, I'm a pirate.
[00:12:18] Speaker C: I bet lots of people commented on it, too. I feel like the. Yeah, the kid, like, a lot of the kids love to be all dressed up because.
Exactly that.
Both the cast and the other passengers are commenting and complimenting.
And on Pirate Night, for those who haven't been on a Disney cruise and are listening to our show maybe for the first time, Pirate Night is kind of a big thing on Disney Cruise Line, and not everyone gets dressed up, but the majority of passengers get dressed up and the crew is dressed up as well. And so it is very.
You will be amongst friends if you do decide, both adults and children, if you decide to get dressed up in full makeup, full costume, all that kind of stuff for. For Pirate Night. All right, well, let. Let's talk about embarcation Day to kind of kick off the cruise.
You had been on the dream, but you hadn't been on the fantasy. What was it like when you entered the fantasy for the first time? Like, we're. I mean, it's. They're pretty similar, although obviously different stylistically. A little different.
But did you have. Do you like the fantasy more or less the same? Like, how did it feel going on to the fantasy?
[00:13:25] Speaker A: Fantasy was beautiful. The atrium was just stunning. I love, like, the peacock look to it, and it's totally my vibe. So I just. I was so excited. It was. It was beautiful.
[00:13:37] Speaker C: Awesome. Now, do you guys have any, like, embarkation day traditions? Are you, like, running first to the kids club? Are you headed right up to cabanas to eat some lunch? Are you doing something else? Like, what.
[00:13:49] Speaker A: What?
[00:13:50] Speaker C: You're. You're. You were boarding, like you said, you know, after one, so maybe you ate lunch. I don't know. What's your sort of plan of attack?
[00:13:58] Speaker A: We looked at the time, and it was almost time to get in our room. So I'm like, let's just get in our room, drop our bags off, and then Go eat lunch. And that was perfect with having two little kids, you, you didn't have to haul around the big bags and you could, you could just take the kids to eat lunch and then go back to the room and get ready for the fun.
[00:14:17] Speaker C: Yeah. I mean the younger your kids are, the more stuff you're schlepping with you. Let's be honest, as a parent, right?
[00:14:22] Speaker A: Like, absolutely.
[00:14:23] Speaker C: You might have like a stroller if your kids are, you know, if, if the younger one's still in diapers, you may have diapers also. Like, it's just, it's a, it's a lot of, a lot of stuff now. I love the idea of if you're getting on a little bit later and you're at the point where your room's going to be open. I love the idea of dropping off your stuff. Did you head to cabanas for lunch after pool deck or sit down lunch?
[00:14:46] Speaker A: We did. Cabana cabanas is usually our go to for, for the first lunch.
[00:14:51] Speaker C: Yeah. Now are you sail away party attendees or are you up to something else on the ship?
[00:14:58] Speaker A: Oh, absolutely. Sail away party.
[00:15:00] Speaker C: Yeah, for sure. How do the kids do? How do they. I mean they're young, so three and five you said are like, do they, are they like all into it down at the dance party and all of that or are they like, oh, it's too hot, get me out of the sun.
[00:15:13] Speaker A: I feel like I have one of the each. I have one that's a dancer and one that's just like watching it and like, okay, this is cool, but I don't want to dance. I want to sit here and watch Mickey dance.
[00:15:26] Speaker C: I love that. Now do you guys all like get dressed up? Are you like matching family T shirt people or anything like that?
[00:15:34] Speaker A: This was the first time we had matching outfits. My kids had matching two piece set and I got my husband a matching polo and then I had matching shorts and they were very loud, bright. My husband thinks that I'm crazy, but he wore it.
[00:15:51] Speaker C: I love that. That just makes me so happy. I can't get Brian to wear matching out. I haven't been able to get him to wear coordinating outfits. Like where he was kind of bounding as Donald and I bounded as Daisy and Nathan bounded as Pluto. But I can't get him to wear like matching outfits. Really.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: I'm just, I'm the understated, I'm trying to be the understated Disney fan.
[00:16:15] Speaker C: I know.
[00:16:15] Speaker B: Like, so I'm bounding is up my alle but like full well, there is. Look, there's pictorial evidence, right, of Michael and I matching Roosevelt's rompers, basically.
[00:16:30] Speaker C: So, yeah, to be fair, you have dressed up, and you have dressed up for, like, a pirate night and for a Star wars day at sea and things like that. But it's more rare for me to be able to get Brian to dress up. So I appreciate the husbands, the wives, the spouses, the kids that will, like, go all in on the matching outfits more than just matching T shirts. I think everybody, like, can get. Most people can get their family to wear a matching T shirt, but I love that. Well, what were the kids looking forward to? Since they have been on a few cruises already in their. In their short little lives there. That's pretty awesome.
But, yeah, what were they looking forward to?
[00:17:11] Speaker A: Castaway and look out. Just the beach. And I've been. I have one kid that loves the sand and wants to play in the sand and the other that wants to be in the water. And, yeah, they were. Just could not wait until we were cast away.
[00:17:23] Speaker C: Oh, I love that. Do they like the characters and stuff on board as well?
[00:17:29] Speaker A: Oh, yes.
And the shows and anything. They loved it all.
[00:17:34] Speaker C: That's awesome. Well, tell us, what kind of stateroom did you guys choose, and were you happy with your stateroom?
[00:17:41] Speaker A: We did an interior room.
It worked fine for us with our kids being so small. This was the first year we didn't use a pack and play. We just. We had the bunk bed, and that was great.
That was perfect for our kids.
So. Yeah. And they loved the porthole. The interactive porthole.
[00:17:58] Speaker C: Yeah. Oh, yeah. You had, like, one of those. Yeah. So on the dream and the fantasy, I can't remember if it's on the magic and the wonder. Also, I think I might only be on the dream in the fantasy. Somebody will correct me because I'm probably wrong on this, but there's these inside portholes. Now, they're not windows, so it's. But it's like. And it's basically like a. We'll call it a TV screen, but it's a porthole. So it's a magic screen. A magic porthole. And you get to see what's outside your stateroom. And occasionally you'll see, like, an animation on your screen as well. Right. So we have never gotten to be in one of those rooms. I kind of want to do that.
[00:18:37] Speaker B: Brian Courtney, did you like it and did your kids enjoy it?
[00:18:41] Speaker A: My kids, anytime they would see that that character was coming on the porthole, they'd stop what they were doing, they'd have to stare at the porthole to see who it was. It was like 75% of the time it was Slinky Dog, which was totally fine for my Toy Story loving kids, but yeah, they loved it.
[00:19:00] Speaker C: Oh, that's awesome.
[00:19:01] Speaker B: How did you find that, did you find the inside stateroom to be big enough for you and the whole family?
[00:19:06] Speaker A: We did the, the smallest inside stateroom, the one with only one bathroom. And I, I told my husband that next time I think we're gonna, we're gonna upgrade and get to the split bathroom just to give us a little more space. But we made it work. It was fine.
[00:19:21] Speaker C: Yeah, I think if your kids are that little because they don't take up a lot of space like it, it's doable. As they get older, I think it becomes less doable. Right. For that, like you said, for the, the smaller of the interior spaces with the bunk beds. You mentioned this was the first time you didn't do a pack and play now, did you, did you put the older kid up top and the younger on the bottom? Or how did that work? Because I don't know if there's an age limit that they have, you know, because they don't want somebody rolling out of bed if they're too small.
[00:19:51] Speaker A: I was a helicopter mom and I was like, oh. Our host was like, I'm going to pull the bunk bed down. I'm like, oh, my kids are too little. I'm not sticking my kids up there. And she's like, they'll love it. It'll be fine.
And shout out to her because it, they absolutely loved it. My youngest is a darede level and he had to be on the top bunk, which my, my oldest did not mind at all, but he had. It was like his own little three year old man cave up there. He, he loved it.
[00:20:20] Speaker C: I love that. Yeah, I'll say. Our 12 year old loves the bunk bed man cave. And, and, and we'd only have one child, so he has the choice of which bed and he. Well, in. Not every stateroom has the bunk bed and the couch bed. Some of them only have the couch bed. But he chooses, if we are in a stateroom that has the bunk bed, always chooses the bunk bed. It's like a novelty. Right? Like, it's just, we don't, yeah, we don't have a bunk bed at home. So. Of course, of course he loves that. I, that's, that's awesome. Well, let's, let's talk about some of the stuff you guys Got up to on board. And then I definitely want to talk about the, the ports because obviously your kids were looking forward to them and you were looking forward to them so much. What were some of the things you guys did on board? Like are your kids wanting to be on the pool deck the whole time? Are they wanting to go to like family game shows or trivias or you know, something else?
[00:21:11] Speaker A: They are definitely pool deck, splash pad area.
They love the water.
We did not get them to trivia or game shows. I don't know that they'd be into it and I would be really into it. So they would, you know, not.
Not they'd be pulling my attention away from.
But yeah, we did a lot of pool deck time.
My daughter loved of the, the Aqueduct.
[00:21:36] Speaker C: Yeah. I think give it a few years. Like give it like maybe three or four more years and they might and they'll be into like I think when the kids are can participate more in those shows that the family game shows. I mean maybe some kids are into trivia, some kids aren't. But I think the family focused game shows are very interactive and so in a couple of years I bet your kids will be game for it and then, and then you can enjoy it too. Courtney. Which is, which is always fun. I think you're in prime pool time, you know, water slide ages.
So that that makes it. You're kind of monopolized by your children at those ages. Now I gotta ask, do they like the kids club? Now they would be in the Oceaneers club or Oceaneers Lab.
But of course you're, you're both. Your kids I think would be in. No, your younger kid would be in the younger cohort. But your five year old, she'd be in the, in the regular part of the club.
[00:22:34] Speaker A: My five year is nonverbal so I was really nervous about sending her and my three year old, he's just turned three and he's potty trained. But he's still makes me nervous about that. So we didn't do the kids clubs this time, but we will definitely do that next time.
[00:22:53] Speaker C: Well, and I will tell you like the kids clubs are great even with non verbal kids. You just have to of course let them know and what are the ways that they can maybe communicate with your child or be able to understand when your child is communicating with them in a nonverbal way.
So they are, you know, they are equipped to handle that stuff. But I can understand being a little bit more nervous about it. And your kids would have been separated because of their Ages. So right now, for, for those who don't have kids that are kids club age, if the, if your child is age three or four and in the Oceaneer Club, meaning your three year old is potty trained, so they're not in the nursery, they will be kind of catching. Kept separate from the older kids. And they're kind of, they do programmed activities for those kids separate from the 5 to 10 year olds. And it's for, you know, safety reasons, but it can be frustrating for some kids, especially if they have an older sibling in the club with them because then they aren't able to, you know, sort of stay together that, that whole time. I think once, I think occasionally they will let older sibling like come and check on the younger sibling. But that, that's kind of the limitation of what they'll do. But. So lots of family time. It sounds like Courtney. Yeah, family time is great. We, we very much appreciate it. When we, when Nathan was younger, our first few cruises, he was not real into the kids club. That changed over time. And so we have gotten more adult freedom on the cruises over the years. But that was not the case when we first started cruising.
How do you know?
[00:24:28] Speaker A: Oh, sorry.
[00:24:28] Speaker C: No, no, go ahead.
[00:24:29] Speaker A: I know that they will love it. I just, I.
We just were on the island so much and then we came back and got ready for dinner and took naps and we just didn't find the time. But next time I know that they will love it.
[00:24:41] Speaker C: Yeah. Tell us actually. Yeah. How did you deal with nap time? Because that is one thing. When your kids are that little, they still need those naps, especially because they're doing all that pool deck time and they get exhausted. Like, how did you guys deal with naps? First, like on the, the sea day and then I'll. And on embarkation day. I'm wondering how that works as well.
[00:25:03] Speaker A: I'm not sure they got a nap on embarkation day.
I know they did on sea day. I think we all got a nice long nap on sea day.
[00:25:13] Speaker C: Yeah. All right, well then let's dive into your port days because you had three amazing port days.
I take it you actually got to go to all three stops. Both twice at Castaway and one once at Lookout.
[00:25:27] Speaker A: Yes. It was perfect.
[00:25:29] Speaker C: Fantastic. What was the order of stops?
[00:25:33] Speaker A: It was castaway. Lookout. Castaway. Oh, nice little sandwich there.
[00:25:39] Speaker C: A Lookout sandwich. I love it. I love it. Tell us about your time. Tell us about your first day on castaway. What'd you guys get up to?
[00:25:48] Speaker A: First day on Castaway. My husband is a Runner.
So the first thing he wants to do when he gets off the ship is go do the 5k before it gets too hot. Hot in August.
So he took our daughter and put her in a jogging stroller and they did the 5k while my son and I played on the beach. And they came back and then we hit up Pelican plunge, and I probably stayed there for hours.
[00:26:14] Speaker C: Wow. So you're. So, I take it your kids are good swimmers then? Because pelican plunge, their. Your kids are little and Pelican plunge is a little ways out in the water.
[00:26:24] Speaker A: Yeah, they. They love the water with, with the life jackets on. They. They did great.
[00:26:29] Speaker C: Awesome. I love that. And you mentioned your son is a daredevil. So did he go like down all the slides and do like that rope course thingy?
[00:26:37] Speaker A: Yes, he did the rope course with my husband. I. And he. He did the slides. He didn't love the slides. He wanted to get on and shoot the water guns at everyone. But the poor people standing in line for the slides were getting soaked because he would. He would sh.
[00:26:56] Speaker C: I love that. That's awesome. How about your daughter? What did she. What did she enjoy?
[00:27:00] Speaker A: She loved the slides. She wanted to go on the slides.
[00:27:03] Speaker C: Awesome. Now, did you spend like the whole day out on the island or did you head back for a nap or lunch or anything like that?
[00:27:11] Speaker A: We did lunch on the island. We did head back usually about 2 o' clock to go nap in the room.
That's what I think it was so great about having the three days on the islands was you didn't have to put it all on one day. You could space out what you wanted to do and take your time and get those naps.
[00:27:32] Speaker C: Yeah, well, and I honestly think that's a great choice for itinerary for that exact reason. Right. Because you've got kids who are still napping in the middle of the afternoon. And if you were to go to, let's say, St. Thomas, it would be, you know, a good. Which you have wonderful, beautiful beaches in St Thomas, but they're not right at the ship. And so you would need to, like, come back and so you'd have to. You wouldn't be able to, like, do so as easily as you can with castaway and lookout. With castaway and lookout, you're just taking the tram back to the ship or walking back to the ship and, you know, and getting right back on and there's your room and nap time is all ready for you. So. Yeah, I think it's a. Did you. Did you end up telling your stateroom attendant to like, leave the beds open and stuff for nap time or how did you handle, handle that?
[00:28:21] Speaker A: We didn't. We just put the kids in our bed for nap and we all, we all piled in.
[00:28:27] Speaker C: Well, I, I will give you that pro tip. If you want those beds to be like, open, you can just tell them and they will, they just won't make the beds in the morning. Just tell them you want them to. The beds to stay open. Now, they'll still like, make everything look nice and neat and all of that. But if you want the beds instead of the, you know, but then of course, you don't have use of the couch. That's the one.
You know, that's the one. Negative. If you have them leave the beds open. But they will do that. In fact, on other cruise lines, that's kind of what they always do because they don't do like the two services a day. Like on Royal Caribbean, for example. I think you've sailed on Royal.
Yeah. They only come and service your room the one time. And so if you've got like bunk beds or whatever set up, they just leave it set up the whole day. Which is for some people annoying. But it's nice if you have young kids who are napping in the middle of the day. So that's just a tip for the future. Yeah.

[00:30:47] Speaker C: Let's talk about lookout. So your second port of call, where did you guys head for for that day?
[00:30:54] Speaker A: We headed to the beach. We went to the right. Found a nice, perfect spot right by the water, played in the sand, played in the water all day until nap time.
[00:31:05] Speaker C: I love it. Now, did you stay on the island for lunch there as well?
[00:31:09] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:31:10] Speaker C: Yeah. And what did you guys think of the food at both of the. Both locations? Both at Castaway and Lookout? Did you prefer one over the other, or did you find them to be equal or. Or.
[00:31:21] Speaker A: I feel like I prefer Lookouts Food over Castaways. I feel like they had more options. We're all really picky eaters, but I do just. I felt like there was more things for us to enjoy.
[00:31:32] Speaker C: All right, cool. I mean, you. You have little kids. Did you use one of those.
What do they call them? The wagons. Did they use one of those wagons to walk the pier? Because I feel like for. Well, for an adult, I don't think that pier is that big of a walk. But you did travel in August. It's really hot in the. In the Caribbean and in the Bahamas in August, by the way. Really, really, like, ungodly hot. And you have two little kids. I that their legs.
They can't. You know, that's a long distance to walk. What did you guys do in terms of getting them to the beach?
[00:32:06] Speaker A: We got a wagon on the way to Lookout. They both rode in the wagon just fine on the way back. My son wanted to walk it. That lasted probably about three minutes, and then he jumped in the wagon.
He gave up.
[00:32:20] Speaker C: Smart kid. I mean, like I said, it's. It's not that. It's. It's not that long for an adult. Like, I know we. We joke about, you know, Mark safe from the lookout, keep here and things like that. Especially when it first opened, it's not that long, but for little legs, it is that long. And it's also this time of year, it's, you know, it's very, very hot. All right, so you head back to the ship. You got nap time. Tell us about Castaway day number two.
[00:32:48] Speaker A: That was our pirate night.
So we did come back a little early for that because to do the makeovers. But my husband took my son and they went and rode bikes while my daughter and I played in the water. And then we just had another beach day and enjoyed the L and then got back on the ship.
[00:33:07] Speaker C: Awesome.
And your kids, are they really happy to just spend most of the day, like, out on. Either in the water or on the sand?
[00:33:15] Speaker A: Yes. They would do that all day if I would let them. All day, every day.
[00:33:20] Speaker C: Awesome. Now, did you end up doing any character meet and greets on the island or on the ship, or are they not character kids?
[00:33:30] Speaker A: We did. We met Captain Hook and Mr. Smee, and my kids had no idea who they were, which. Peter Pan is one of my favorite movies. So I got to introduce them to. To the. That movie in our stateroom that night. But my son has talked about Captain Hook non stop since he refers to me as Mr. Smee all the time, and he thinks he's Captain Hook, so that was his favorite meet and greet, for sure. We also met Mickey and Minnie. I think we met Donald at Castaway.
[00:34:01] Speaker C: It's always a lot, right? It always ends up being a blur of what, like who you meet and where and all of that. I feel like there's somebody by the post office, right? Either Donald or Daisy are often by that post office when you're walking on to Castaway.
I try to catch whichever one of them if there's not a long line there. Well, tell us now. So on pirate night, did they skip their naps and was that doable or disaster?
[00:34:28] Speaker A: We got back on the ship a little early so we could give them the early nap. So our pirate makeover was like. Like 5:15, and then dinner was 5:45. So I think at like 4:45, I'm waking them up and getting them ready to go get their makeovers and head out for the evening.
[00:34:46] Speaker C: Nice. Okay, so they still got a nap. They just got a little bit of a shorter nap probably than they might have otherwise gotten. That's perfect. I love that. Now, what did your. You mentioned your son loved the pirate makeover. Did your daughter enjoy the pirate makeover, too?
[00:35:02] Speaker A: She did. She. She did the. The eyeshadow. She had a little tattoo on face, and she just kept looking at herself in the mirror. She. You could tell that she. She loved it.
[00:35:12] Speaker B: Oh.
[00:35:12] Speaker C: Now, has she ever done one of the princess makeovers, or is she not into that?
[00:35:17] Speaker A: Not yet. It's. It. It'll happen.
[00:35:19] Speaker C: Okay. All right. Yeah. I. I mean, no judgment. If she ends up not being into it, Nathan is Not into any makeovers. We did the one at Aulani the one time where he got, like, a bunch of fake tattoos and he got, like, red, like, gel thing in his hair. And by the time we got back to the room, he was like, get this stuff out hair. Like, he didn't. He was not. It. He did. I mean, he thought he looked good, but he was not into the way it felt. Right. Like, so some kids are just more sensory sensitive than others, and so some kids is not their thing. All right, well, I want to. I want to hear about food. We always love to talk about food on Disney cruises. Now, you mentioned you all are picky eaters. What. What degree of picky eater are we talking? Like, what are. What are, like, the staples that you guys eat?
[00:36:08] Speaker A: Like, steak and potato and.
I mean, sometimes we eat, like, toddlers, and we eat the chicken and the macaroni, which. We were one of the first cruises to have the new Kraft roll out with the Mac and cheese and.
[00:36:23] Speaker C: Okay, we need to know. We need. Now, you've had the regular Mac and cheese. You've had the pre. You've had the Mickey's Mac and cheese. So pre changes to Kraft, and now you've had the Kraft version.
Please tell me they're not that different and we're not going to notice the difference. Difference.
[00:36:39] Speaker A: I will tell you, I liked it better, but my kids did not.
[00:36:43] Speaker C: Oh, no.
[00:36:45] Speaker A: I don't know.
[00:36:45] Speaker C: That does not give me good hope.
I actually think I. I think if your kids liked it, that would have given me more hope. Courtney, I'm sorry.
[00:36:54] Speaker A: Yeah, no, I. I noticed that you had said that Nathan really liked it, and I'm like, oh, we all really like it, too, but I. I liked it. It just. It was different, but it was still good.
[00:37:03] Speaker C: Yeah. Now, does it look like the box stuff, or does it look like. Like. More like the old. Like the old stuff is like, the fancy macaroni. Right. But. But Kraft has a version that is the fancy one, too, so I didn't know. Is it more like the stuff we get in the blue box, or is it more like the fancy style of craft?
[00:37:22] Speaker A: It's more like the fancy style. I never noticed any. That was, like, the blue box.
I definitely would have liked that better, but, no, it was more of, like, the fancy elbow.
[00:37:34] Speaker C: Okay. Okay. So I'm going to cross my fingers and toes. We still. We're not on until December, so we have. Have not. For those listening, we have not told Nathan about this change because I don't. I just. I don't want him to like worry about it for months. Like, I probably will tell him right before we get on the cruise that they changed the macaroni and cheese to craft and. But that it's the fancy craft and that we've heard it's really good and we want to get his take on it. So we, well, that's what we'll do so that he'll try it. But I just, I, I don't, I don't know. I'm, I, I'm really anxious about it. I gotta be honest with you, Courtney. I'm really anxious about it because it has been for years his favorite thing to eat at dinner. And it's not the only thing he'll eat. Like, he'll eat. He actually really likes a steak and a baked potato. That's like one of. He will order sometimes off of the adult menu just like the lighter note menu the steak and a baked potato or steak and white rice and some vegetables.
He actually does like vegetables, but I am just worried because it's still the Mac and cheese is kind of his, his staple. So. Yeah. What did you guys think of the. Now that I have an idea of what your, what your pickiness level is, what did you guys think of the food on board and. And was it up to par? Better than worse than what you've had previously on Disney.
[00:38:56] Speaker A: I think it was up to par.
It was. I think I can probably better. I recall a few cruises ago that my husband and I be like, well, this one wasn't our. Wasn't the best meal and we didn't have that conversation. This cruise we were always satisfied with whatever we had, whatever we ate.
This being the. When we only the second time we've been to animators or third time we've been to animators.
The first time on the Dream, I fell in love with the black truffle proceeded sets. But then I did not get them on the Magic last year.
So I was super excited to go back and try them again on the fantasy and they were just as good as I remembered.
[00:39:39] Speaker C: Oh, I'm so glad to hear that. I. I have to say, like, I think though you're, you're right about sort of inconsistencies. Like we'll have times where the food is just really, really good, where everything's really, really good. And then maybe you'll get like one dish that you just don't like, but it's nothing wrong with the dish. And then we'll have other cruises where the food was foods just more inconsistent Right. Where the quality is just not quite as good. And so it's, but it, it doesn't seem to have a particular rhyme or reason or even a particular, you know, ship. It's just kind of hit or the hit or miss that I think comes with serving that many thousand people at once. Right. So I try to tell people like, you know, pack your patience pants. It's not always perfect, but it's usually decent and mo and oftentimes, you know, very, very good. What do the kids think about the food and what, what it's their kind of typical like do they get order the same thing every night like Nathan does or are they ordering different things each night?
[00:40:42] Speaker A: They would mix it up between pizza, Mac and cheese, chicken.
But it was always one of those three things.
[00:40:49] Speaker C: And they're faithful to the kids menu? Yes, absolutely. Yeah. Now are they into the.
You know, my favorite part of Disney Cruise Line is the shows.
[00:41:01] Speaker A: This was the first year that I got to go to the shows with my entire family and we made it through two shows, all of us. And then one of the shows it was just me and my daughter.
But I was super excited because the last few cruises I'm like, okay, I have to at least get to see one show. So I told my husband, I'm like, okay, you get to take them back to the room, let me go watch a show.
But this time they were all into it. Give them some popcorn and they will just be happy.
[00:41:35] Speaker C: Wow. Even the 3 year old sat through all. Well, sat through. He sat through two of the three shows.
[00:41:41] Speaker A: Yes, he sat through Aladdin and Frozen.
[00:41:44] Speaker C: Wow, that's real. I'm, I'm like super impressed. Like most three, I feel like a lot of three year olds are not happy to sit through and I don't mean to be gender like stereotyping, but let's be honest, more of the time the three year old boys have a tougher time sitting through a show than the three year old girls. Especially a show like Frozen. Some, you know, girls who are like obsessed with Anna and Elsa are willing to sit through. You know, they would sit through like three hours of Frozen. But I will tell you, our son not interested in sitting through an hour of frozen and he's 12, so I'm impressed that your 3 year old old did that.
[00:42:26] Speaker A: Well, he's an Olaf fan so he was searching for Olaf the whole time.
[00:42:30] Speaker C: I love it. Awesome. Fantastic. Now does your husband enjoy the shows too or is it just you who enjoys it and you just drag everybody else with you? Like I Try to do.
[00:42:42] Speaker A: I think he enjoys them. He. He tolerates them for me, but I think he enjoys them more than he leads on.
He's always willing to go.
[00:42:52] Speaker C: That's awesome. Now, did you.
Were there any, like, firsts that you got to do? You mentioned you had done the Midship Detective Agency before.
Did you get to do, like a different storyline that you maybe hadn't done on your. On your prior cruise on the Dream?
[00:43:08] Speaker A: Yes, we did. I think we did the puppy one on the Dream and this time we did the Mickey's Art one.
My kids are into Mickey and they. That caught their attention more.
[00:43:19] Speaker C: So, so, yeah, I, so I, I highly recommend for kids your age. Those are the two that I recommend. I would say, like, I love the Muppets one. I think if you have a slightly older kids who don't mind a little bit or who have a little bit more of a bandwidth to go, you know, zigzag a little bit more because it requires a few more stops and it requires going back and forth to Pepe's door and the. And the theater board, actually multiple times. Unless, like me, you just take a picture of it and rather than going back to it 12 times. But I.
It might be a little bit too much for. I mean, you could split it into two different days. You don't have to do it all at once or two different periods of time. But I would say that it's a little bit too long for younger kids. The Puppy one and the Mickey one are definitely a better option for, for. For kids that are your age kids. Were there any other, like, firsts that we got to do on this cruise?
[00:44:16] Speaker A: Just, I mean, watching the shows, that was a first with all my family. Like, I've been sitting by myself at the shows and now to go with everyone. And everyone enjoyed.
My husband has always wanted to do the bike rental and he got to experience that and he. He loved that.
[00:44:35] Speaker C: Yeah, I was. I'm curious. So you mentioned that he. He is a runner and obviously he obviously likes to cycle as well. Now, was he disappointed that Lookout doesn't have their 5k? And did he get to go for a. I mean, you can go for a run on, on Lookout. There is a path, but it's not really all set up up like at Castaway.
[00:44:55] Speaker A: Is that was one of his first questions when we booked? He was like, is the. Is there a 5K? I'm like, well, no, but you get it two days.
But no, he. I think he just got back on the ship and once we got the kids down for their naps. He went on his run.
[00:45:11] Speaker C: Well, you know, it's one of those things where you, like I said, there is still a path that's available on Lookout. It's just not like you don't have, like, the water stations and stuff that you have on Castaway. And of course, there is no metal, like it's supposedly coming because. And there was at one time even a leaked, like, picture of the metal, the Lookout key metal on Facebook and all in a bunch of different Facebook groups. But, like, they still haven't. It just seems kind of crazy. They still haven't launched it. That shit. The. The island's been open for two years now, so it seems like kind of weird that they would not have at least started, you know. And again, it's informal. It's not. You know, on Castaway, there used to be a sort of an organized 5k that everybody did the same time, and then they smartly switched it over to sort of an on your honor type of situation.
But who knows? Doesn't. You know, maybe. Maybe that's what they're going to announce this weekend at D23. We're. We're recording this on. On Friday, August 14th. So the big Horizons presentation is tomorrow. This episode will come out later.
But maybe. Maybe Neil Patrick Harris is going to announce a 5K. It looks. Yeah, probably not. But probably not a big enough announcement to be made. Well, Courtney, is there anything that we have missed in terms of. I'm curious, like, any surprises in terms of, like, service or anything you guys were hoping to do that you didn't get to do?
Yeah. Or anything we just haven't covered.
[00:46:49] Speaker A: Honestly, we. We didn't do as much as I thought. Thought we would just because we did have those three days on the island and that took up a. A majority of our time. And that was what we. We went for. That's what we wanted to do.
So we didn't get to some of the things that I was hoping to. So we'll just have to get back on the fantasy.
[00:47:08] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. Listen, I. I always try to tell problem.
[00:47:11] Speaker B: It's just another Disney cruise, so.
[00:47:12] Speaker C: Exactly. Exactly. Well, we always tell people like, you have your priorities, right, and for this cruise, the priorities were the islands, because that's what your. Your kids wanted to do. And I think that's a perfectly acceptable way of doing a Disney cruise because, you know, I understand, like, when people go to Europe and they, you know, spend all their time, you know, at port. Right, that. But that's a little different because you could do that on another cruise line. You can't get to Castaway or to Lookout without being on a Disney cruise. And they are Disney's private island, so. Or private island destination. Not Eleuthera is not a private island, but you know what I mean? So it's. But it's. I really think it's like take advantage of that time and you guys did exactly what your family wanted to do. So I love that for you. Well, I think it's that point in the show. Brian, what do you think?
[00:48:02] Speaker B: I don't have to think. I just know that we have reached that point in the show where Sam is going to subject you to some arbitrary questions, some arbitrary rules, and normally more than a dash of judgment or the round we know as rapid fire. So, Sam, take it away.

You know, I love my, my favorite place to be in the whole world is sitting in like row four, like orchestra middle, you know, watching a show up on the Walt Disney Theater stage. What is your favorite show that you have seen on the Walt Disney Theater stage?
[00:50:51] Speaker A: I think it's Frozen. Since I got to enjoy it with my entire family and my both my kids really, really loved it. I think it's got to go to Frozen.
[00:51:01] Speaker C: It's a great show. It's a really great production. I've said this before on the podcast. I'll keep saying it. It's better than the Broadway show. It's better than the production that was at the Hyperion Theater at Disney's California Adventure. I think that Disney Cruise Line production of Frozen is the best. It's really. And it's not my favorite show on Disney Cruise Line, but it's fantastic. And that just shows you how good the productions on Disney Cruise Line are. The that there is so many that are so fantastic. All right, well, what is your favorite activity to do on a Disney cruise? And Courtney, this is not your kids favorite activity. So it doesn't have to be like the Aqua Doc that your son might want to go on 1200 times. But what's your favorite activity?
[00:51:46] Speaker A: I enjoy trivia.
I, I really don't have anyone to play like to do trivia with. My husband was not really really a Disney knowledge. He kind of just goes with me.
But I'll go to trivia sometimes by myself and enjoy it.
[00:52:03] Speaker C: All right, I'm gonna give you a pro tip. Next time you go to trivia by yourself, you find a team. You find some friendly people, maybe look like Brian and I who are maybe two people, three people and you asked to join their team because if they are anything like Us, we are not good at most Disney trivia. We are good at Disney Cruise Line triv. We're good at, like, brain teasers and sometimes general knowledge trivia. But, like, that Disney park stuff or like, the Pixar or like, other Disney movies, like, it just goes, like, too deep. So we love it if, like, an expert or somebody who just loves trivia wants to join us. So that's my pro tip for you, Courtney. [00:53:44] Speaker A: It's the black truffle presets. I. I tried it the first cruise I went on, and. And I was. I always have a goal. I'm going to try something new. I'm not an adventurous eater, but I'm going to try it. And that was the thing I tried, and I just loved it.
[00:53:58] Speaker C: Listen, for a steak and potatoes girl, I'm real proud of you, Courtney. I think it's. I think it's awesome because they.
While they're not like, they're not odd, but they do have, like, truffles are like a mushroom. Right. So they are different. So there are people who are not really vegetable eaters.
And if you, you know, you're not super adventurous trying truffle process, that's adventurous. So I appreciate. I very much appreciate that. I want you to. I want you to branch out and maybe try escargot at some point.
[00:54:30] Speaker A: All right, I can do that.
[00:54:32] Speaker C: I Love it. Okay, you have now been across the fleet in terms of water slides, so I've got to ask you, and you can tell me if you haven't been on all three of them, but Aqua D Dunk, Aqua Duck, and Aqua Mouse.
[00:54:48] Speaker A: I did not go on Aqua Dunk. That thing scared me just looking at it.
I like both Mouse and duck, but I think I like AquaDuck better.
[00:54:58] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah. More water slide. A little. A little less show, but more water slide. So I don't blame you. All right, Courtney, the. Now, of course, the. The second to last question, but the most important question of this show is which one is your favorite ship? You have the magic, the dream, the fantasy, or the Wish?
[00:55:19] Speaker A: I think at this point, it's the Fantasy.
I mean, most recent ship. Yes. But I loved the decor. I loved everything about the Fantasy. Our itinerary was amazing. And, yeah, I think it's fantasy. I have a feeling when I get on the Treasure, it's going to be the treasure. Just from the pictures alone, I'm like, that looks like my ship.
[00:55:39] Speaker C: But listen, the treasure is gorgeous. It's. It's. It's really hard to beat that grand hall. To be perfectly honest. I think that one might be. That might be my favorite grand hall or slash atrium. But they're all. They're all amazing. And you can't go wrong with the Fantasy. The Fantasy is an amazing ship. And I. I, too, love the peacock chandelier. That's one of my favorite. It's probably.
That might be my favorite chandelier in the fleet, actually. It's really the. The. The decor on the Fantasy is just fantastic.
[00:56:11] Speaker A: Like.
[00:56:12] Speaker C: All right, Courtney, the last question of Rapid Fire, the question I ask everyone, what is your bucket list Cruise? And by that, I mean, if you could go anywhere in the world on a Disney cruise, it doesn't even have to be someplace Disney Cruise Line currently goes. It just has to be someplace accessible by water. Where would you go?
[00:56:31] Speaker A: I would go to the Mediterranean. I am just dying to get over there and to sail on Disney, and
[00:56:37] Speaker C: that would be incredible. Those are some really wonderful. There's, like, the ones that do all the Italy stops. There's the ones that do all the Greece stops. There's the ones that do a mix of both. They are fantastic. Well, Courtney, thank you for playing.
