[00:00:00] Speaker A: Well, seize the adventure is that, you know, compilation show or variety show where they've strung together a plot with a bunch of different songs and they've done it really, really well in my opinion. I think it's better than dreams and believe that are on the other ships. There are others that disagree. They're wrong. That's okay. It's my show.
Hello everyone and Welco. Welcome back another bonus episode of the DCL Duo Podcast brought to you by My Path Unwinding Travel. I am your host today, of course, and as you can tell, Brian is not with me. He has a ton of stuff to do before we head out for Orlando, Florida ourselves on Wednesday as a family and also had a work event and he also didn't want a little bit of spoilers. So it's just myself hosting. But of course I have the most amazing travel agency owner with me.
As all you all know her, she's been on the show a bajillion times before. Welcome to the show. Karen Shelton from My Path Unwinding Travel. Welcome Karen.
[00:01:14] Speaker B: Hello Sam. Hi everybody out there. I'm so excited. I miss Sam already. We just said goodbye yesterday from our in person time together and now here we are virtually together to relive it all.
[00:01:29] Speaker A: Yes, absolutely. I also want to thank our bonus live show spot, the WDW magazine and DCL magazine for sponsoring our bonus shows and live shows. As all of you know, DCL magazine is going to become a thing very soon. Make sure that you are signed up on their waitlist for the print magazine and the digital magazine. And also if you'd like to buy anything in their store or subscribe to their magazine, you can use code DCLDUO for 10% off. I see some folks are already commenting on my new Mickey and Minnie right here to my left as you can see, or to the right probably on your screen.
But yeah, these are Voyager Minnie and Mickey.
Voyager Minnie was actually a gift from Karen and a gift from DCL and Voyager Mickey I purchased in the shop so they are available on board the Disney Treasure. We have Leia watching. She's already saying miss my Treasure roomies. The three of us together, myself, Karen and Leia room to board the Treasure together for a three night preview sailing that we're going to be talking about today. And yes, Connecticut, I am racking up the frequent flyer miles. I am a gold MVP with Alaska Airlines and so I am just racking up those miles back and forth, back and forth. We've got Josh loving Voyager Mickey and Minnie and there are new ears and whatnot as well that are available in the store. So anyway, Tracy saying we should be having espresso martinis.
I think Tracy is right. We should. I did not come prepared. I've been quite busy today as all of you can imagine, as I flew back yesterday as Karen mentioned and Karen flew home yesterday and of course I'm flying back to Orlando on Wednesday, so. And we've got Chris Vorbeck watching as well who will be on the show tomorrow night. So anyway, with all of that, I've said a lot of hellos to those of you watching in the chat. I know a ton of you more are saying hello. I haven't had a chance to go through all of the comments. We'll try and answer questions as we go. I know there will be lots of questions, but we're going to just dive in to talking about the Treasure. I'm going to start by saying we were hosted by Disney on the Disney Treasure. Karen was the one who got the invitation from Disney Cruise Line for my Path Unwinding Travel. And so she decided to take me and Leia with her on this three night preview sailing. It was the second of what I'll call media previews. When I say media, that includes mainstream media, Instagram influencers, travel agents, sort of anyone who has a reason to be invited on board. But prior to the two media sailings there were cast member previews which were, we'll call those rehearsals. Right. So they had two seven night rehearsal sailings. Then they had two three night sailings. Right now there is a five night sailing happening. It's another cast preview sailing. So it's a another rehearsal with cast and cast families on board. We got to mention the news from today though, Karen.
After we left the Treasure we were already all at the airport when this happened. But during or right before I think the boarding process for the cruise that's happening right now, this five night sailing, there was a malfunction in the sprinkler system in the grand hall of the Disney Treasure and the sprinklers went off for about three minutes soaking the carpet.
[00:05:18] Speaker B: Yeah, that beautiful, beautiful carpet got completely drenched. And the update as of a couple of hours ago is that they are still furiously mopping it, have blowers on it and have it cordoned off.
You know, when we were exiting the ship it was, it was all roped off so that nobody could just cut across it. You know, we just thought, okay, they're trying to just preserve this beautiful thing and not have a lot of unnecessary traffic, especially with all the roller bags, and then shortly after, yeah, just that torrential shower from the sprinklers. But, hey, this is why these are test cruises.
You know, they're still working out a few glitches. This ship is far and away much more ready for the maiden voyage than the Wish was back two years ago and then some, when the Wish maiden voyage was delayed and, you know, there was still construction and tweaks, major tweaks happening on the preview.
[00:06:29] Speaker A: This.
[00:06:30] Speaker B: This ship is really, really close to perfect. As much as any ship can. There's always, you know, little things can happen. But obviously another little glitch happened. And I'm sure that they had their engineers furiously figuring it all out. So that will not be happening again.
[00:06:49] Speaker A: Yeah, I feel really bad for the crew right now for obviously having to deal with that just from a logistics standpoint. But I also feel bad for the guest. I know they're preview guests, so they're also being hosted by Disney, meaning they're on for, you know, not paying cruise fare, just paying taxes. But, you know, a lot of the events and things that happen on the ship happen in that. In that beautiful grand hall. And so they obviously can't be using that space very much right now. So they've got, as Karen mentioned, they have it. It's roped off so that people can't stand on the carpet. That means pictures and things like that that would normally happen in front of the beautiful atrium statue are not obviously happening. And then there are certain events that would be held in that space that are either not being held in that space or not being held at all. So, you know, there. There are really limitations, obviously, that are placed on the crew and on the guests when they can't use that space. But we're going to dive in and talk about our sailing. We're going to talk about. The first thing you see, obviously, when you go into this ship is this beautiful grand hall. Karen, I was a little worried about this grand hall, that it would be too masculine.
What did you think when you walked in and saw this grand hall?
[00:08:10] Speaker B: Yeah, I had the same concern. And, you know, if we soon, I'm going to pull up a photo of the artist renderings of the grand hall when they first announced the theming of the treasure and the atrium statue versus what it actually looks like. And I was expecting dark.
Masculine is a good way to put it. Almost looked a little foreboding from the artist renderings. And when I got on, I found lushness and richness and vivid hues, jewel tones, but not, I mean, it's just done in such a, I don't know, just such a glorious way. I, I, I was almost jumping up and down when we were announced, and I came in and really, like, immersed myself in that view because it, it was just gorgeous. And every time we walked through it, around it, by it, it's just stunning. And the way that that light fixture continually changes. Hughes.
You know, I could see some of what the renderings were, were getting at, like when it had more of the purple hues and the shadows that it casts over the hall.
But it is, it is vibrant. It is not dark, it is not masculine. It is just rich and vibrant.
[00:09:39] Speaker A: Absolutely. I couldn't agree more. I found it to be just such a beautiful space. I'm going to share the photo of the first of the chandelier, but this is the grand hall that you're seeing on the screen. We did get to do the imagineering tour, which is similar to the Art of the Theme Ship tour. And one of the things that they mentioned is the staircase is supposed to represent kind of a stream of water, and it goes all the way down from staircase to staircase to. What is a fountain in, on the carpet? It's actually a fountain design in the carpet. I hadn't realized that that was what it was until obviously the tour explained it. But it's just really beautiful and it has this amaz flow to it.
And as you mentioned, this beautiful chandelier. We've talked about this on the show before, but those lanterns that are hanging from the chandelier, there are six of them, and each one does represent a different ship in the fleet. They each have a nod to the atrium statue on each of the ships. It's a really well done nod to all of those other ships. And as Karen mentioned, it does change colors. It's, it's just a beautiful, it's a beautiful grand hall. I agree. I thought it was gonna be dark. This picture is taken, I believe, you know, it's of the ceiling. So it's supposed to, it sort of has a little nighttime feel to it, but it's a really bright atrium. It's not at all dark.
I obviously was very wrong about that perception of what it would look like. So somebody's asking, do they do a kiss goodnight?
Yes, they do. We did not. We got to see the final one on the last night called Treasure Found. And so that did a light effect thing. And there's lights on the staircase as well that go off. So it's different than what they have on the Wish and it has a different name, but it does have a kiss goodnight and it's really quite beautiful. I also love the greenery behind the atrium statue. Right? So you've got this beautiful Aladdin and jasmine on a magic carpet and there's greenery. They're fake plants, but they look beautiful. And there's some, I don't know, there's a warmth that it has this different from the Wish. And in my opinion, and I said this on a previous show, you know, this, this ship, like every, like every class of ship, the second ship is better than the first. This is, this is no less true in the wish class, in fact, if anything, even true on the wish class. And I think the greenery really adds to that beauty.
You know, I think overall, and I'm going to give you my, this is my overall 2 cent opinion, this ship is better than the Wish. The ship is incredible.
Karen, I, I gotta ask, do you.
[00:12:44] Speaker B: Agree, I have to honestly agree in terms of the theming, the decor, they went all in on every single space and I don't think we talked to anyone on board that felt differently. You know, we don't want to, you know, the Disney ships are, you know, like all of our children in many ways. There's something to love about every single one. But this ship, they just immerse themselves truly in that theming and in that spirit of adventure that they, you know, was the motif of the Disney treasure. And, you know, it's one of those things, it's kind of confusing. The motif of the Disney wish is enchantment. The motif of the Disney treasure is adventure. Even though we have another ship called the Disney Adventure. But really they leaned in in every possible way, you know, just from the, Even the carpet is telling a story throughout the ship. So there's just so much to see. And you can see in this picture of the three of us, you know, just the joy that we had as we boarded, but also the light and the reflect of the sunlight that's coming in and the greenery and the colors and the carpet flowing down and the dry carpet.
[00:14:10] Speaker A: We do have a couple of questions and comments here. First, I'm going to answer, level with us. Is there space for a suitcase under the beds? Have no fear.
[00:14:20] Speaker B: Oh my gosh.
We put our, we had two away suitcases. We could have probably put six away suitcases under the bed. I mean, there was that. It's high enough. It's. They rolled in, put souvenirs under the bed. There was so much room under the bed.
And we. Well, I'll let you continue the flow. If we're going to jump into state. Whenever we're going to jump into state.
[00:14:45] Speaker A: Yeah, we'll jump back and talk about staterooms a little bit. I wanted to talk about this. This comment from Taryn. The Wish had so many constraints with supply issues in the pandemic. I'm so glad to see the treasurer's level of detail in everything. That Very, very true. And I want to show a couple of pictures of some of the artwork on board because I think that helps demonstrate the level of detail we're talking about. So we've got some beautiful tapestries hanging. This one is obviously Aladdin themed. This is going between decks three and four. Those sort of staircases in the middle. These are not the staircases by the elevator. So these are the ones that only off of the Great Hall. Oh, this is not what I want. I have a couple. Sorry, I have these, like, mixed up. Oh, here's this one I wanted to show because this is just like the one on the Wish. But this is one of the treasures. So this is what we call the cutout mural. And so it has, you know, the different spaces.
There is a trivia question of which space is missing from that. Karen and Leia actually asked me because they had heard from a cast member and they quizzed me on it. I will tell you, it was. I couldn't figure it out. It was like my third guest before I got it. But I won't spoil it for all of you. I gotta talk about this. Actually, I'm gonna let Karen talk about this. Karen, why don't you tell folks.
What is this? There's a few of these on board, but tell people what this is made of.
[00:16:14] Speaker B: So this is a mural that is actually made of preserved moss. And again, it just brings this texture and life to the artwork that you don't see. It kind of harkens onto these living walls that we see in different outside hotels and restaurants and whatnot. And we were encouraged on our tour to actually take a sniff.
And it does it to me. It even smelled a little bit like Castaway Cay. It just has this, you know, fresh, earthy, fresh, earthy, herby smell. And I mean, it's just gorgeous. And then there's the Marceline Market has a similar.
Similar signage. Don't know for sure if it's also made of the dried moss.
[00:17:05] Speaker A: I think it is. I think it is also made of. Here's the Marcel. Yeah, there you go.
[00:17:10] Speaker B: But yes, Beth is watching from the plane on her flight home from Walt Disney World and asked, is it the same mural that you were sniffing Sam, in that picture?
[00:17:22] Speaker A: So the one. Okay, so the one you just saw, that was of. That was not the Marceline Market one, but the one that you saw that was of teeth from Moana. Yes, I was sniffing that mural in the picture on board. Sorry. I'm going to scroll through just to get to the art pictures. This one is. I'm going to call this a moving mural. This is.
[00:17:47] Speaker B: They called it floating art, I believe, on the tour.
[00:17:49] Speaker A: Okay. Yeah. And this is the Steamboat Willie floating art. This is down the corridor between the two 1923 restaurants. So you've got Walt on one side and Roy on the other side. And this is. It moves. There is a little cruise ship that comes out in one spot right over here. I don't have a picture of it as it comes out. There is also a fish that jumps out at certain times. This is just another cool piece of art on board.
Sorry, I have to scroll through. I don't. As I said, I don't have these in a great order.
Here is one of the mosaics. This is outside of the Heihei Cafe. So just incredible artwork all throughout the ship. This is another mosaic. This is. This we heard.
I forget from the song Prince Ali when they talk about the peacocks and how many feathers they have. Whoever can tell me that number in the chat? But this is the peacock that has that many feathers.
But there's just the attention to detail everywhere on the ship is incredible.
[00:19:04] Speaker B: It is just gorgeous. And honestly, you know, when you are sailing on the Wish, I encourage you to take some time to smell the roses, so to speak. Smell the. Smell the mural. But really explore the different corners of the ship. Look at the artwork, you know, on all the different landings. You know, there's two sets of staircases, and every landing has something unique and different. Look at the artifacts inside and outside. 1923. Look at the carpets at the elevator landings, forward and aft. Look at the carpets in your stateroom and in the. In the public areas. And if you're in concierge, check out those carpets. There's so much detail that. But, you know, I wish I had had more time. I cannot wait to go back, really, just to get immersed in the color and the art and all the craftsmanship that went into. Craftsmanship that went into the mosaics and the paintings. I mean, there's just on and on and on, and that's before we even talk about the lounges.
[00:20:19] Speaker A: Yeah. Oh, absolutely.
[00:20:20] Speaker B: All right.
[00:20:21] Speaker A: We're gonna, we're gonna do a quick foray into talking about stateroom, but we're not. I want to put this out there. Karen is way more knowledgeable about the staterooms and different categories. And obviously, of course, she has an affinity for concierge as well. And so I think Karen is going to be soon putting on a webinar to talk more in depth about staterooms and the different categories and all of that. But I do want to touch on. This is our stateroom, actually. So this was. Remind me the category, Karen. I never can remember.
[00:20:53] Speaker B: This was a category 4C, which is the deluxe family ocean view stateroom with veranda. So because it has the word family in it, you know that it is the larger stateroom of the veranda categories. It has a little bit more depth to it. Yeah, right here, right where Sam is pointing. But very interestingly, in my mind, I always think of anything with a category 4 as sleeping 5. In this case, our stateroom was still big enough that it could have had the identical layout to have a Murphy bed in there, one of those kind of fold out beds. But instead we had a stateroom that could sleep four, and we had an extra closet. So at kind of where Sam's pointer is now, at the very end of the room. Before you cabin, it was a. It was a cabinet closet type situation. You opened up and for lots more storage, which was well appreciated. And you know, we were only there for three nights, so we were fine. But you know, it's a great option. So we could have had four people with the drop down bunk. But this stateroom does not sleep five, despite it being that larger size. So it's going to be really important to pay attention to that if you really want that Murphy bed. If you have five people, they'll automatically assign you the right stateroom. If you have three or four, then we have to do a little digging.
[00:22:28] Speaker A: Yeah. And this cabinet was really nice. It was all shelves. It was not hanging. But there was enough room in the hanging closet when you walked in the door. And so this was great for us for storage. It worked perfectly fine. I think it would have been okay even for a longer sailing. I do think. I worry if this was a Murphy bed. I do still worry about the amount of storage in these staterooms because if this is a Murphy bed, then you're talking sleeping four to five people, as Karen said, because there's a drop down bunk bed above the couch bed. So I slept on the couch bed. It's one of those sideways couch beds. Just like on the other ships in your regular staterooms. It's different from the couch beds in the concierge staterooms and super comfortable. Totally perfect for an adult. And I do not recommend the bunk bed for an adult, although it's great for kids. Even smaller. Teens probably fine, but not, you know, it was fine for us to not have the Murphy bed. In fact, I'm happy we didn't have the Murphy bed because as I mentioned, we had the storage. I do want to show the beautiful artwork that we had. Nope, wrong direction.
So we had an Aladdin themed stateroom.
And I think on our floor on floor six, I think is Aladdin or Pocahontas. And I don't know which rooms. People have done the digging. There's charts out there. You can probably look and find which room if you really care about specific theming. But I thought this was beautiful. There was also above the couch and sort of a map picture of Agrabah that was. That was really quite beautiful.
[00:24:14] Speaker B: I think on our Instagram we have a great room tour that shows a lot of these details. And also just adding the hallways on this ship are so beautiful. Like outside of our room we had kind of the purple themed carpeting and really beautiful light fixtures throughout. So again, every little spot on the ship, no matter what floor you're on, is beautiful.
[00:24:42] Speaker A: Yeah, I. I gotta show. I thought the Sweet Shop was just too cute to not show. This is Jumbo Suites. It's. I. It's now my favorite of the Sweet shops. I will be honest and tell you, I didn't buy a single thing in this shop. I just. But I took a bunch of pictures and video because our eyes. Yeah, exactly. I just. I love Zootopia. So I. I had to. I had to get some time in there. I think now is the time we should jump to bars and Loun. Karen, do you want to. Do you want to start with talking about Scat Cat? And I'll find my picture. A couple of pictures I have of Scat Cat.
[00:25:18] Speaker B: Absolutely. So Scat Cat is of course inspired by the Adventures of the Aristocats. It is the piano bar on board. It is right off the atrium. It also has a bar that is considered part of Scat Cat. I don't know if they call it scat cat 2 or they just call it Scat Cat.
[00:25:40] Speaker A: I think they call it Scat Cat Gray grand hall or something.
[00:25:43] Speaker B: Grand Hall. So it's right off. It's. You know, it kind of is adjacent and it has pretty much the same menu. So if you can't get into Scat Cat, you can sit at the bar seats there and order a drink. But it is lovely inside because it has beautiful artwork. Again, beautiful light fixtures. It is the piano bar at night. And this is one bar that is 18 and up throughout always. So your kids can never come in until they're 18.
We enjoyed a really lovely adult tea. It was a cold tea, but served in a gorgeous teapot and little, little beautiful glasses sitting by one of the windows as the sun was going down.
You know, as you said, there's different piano entertainment in the evening. It is a great space. You. I was kind of like, like unsure if I was going to care about Scat Cat.
I was like, I don't know.
[00:26:44] Speaker A: That's a fair assessment. It's really the theming. I will say, like, I don't think a lot of us were super excited about the theming of the Aristocats, but the way that they did this space, it's really well done. There are like, I'll call them hidden, like hidden Mickeys. They're like hidden cats in the wallpaper in certain spots around the windows as well. So they did a really nice job.
[00:27:08] Speaker B: And you know, again, I don't conn connect with that story. I don't know if I could really tell you the story of Aristocats, to be honest, but it was still just a really great space. Like just a cool space to sit and chill and so, you know, and if you're an Aristocat fan, even better.

[00:28:25] Speaker A: I'm going to find here. Oh, sorry, my phone is going off. Not realizing that I'm not trying to look at videos on my phone. I was just trying to find the right picture. As we're talking here.
What I'm looking for is the Skipper Society. Here we go. Okay, I've got a couple pictures from the Skipper Society. This is of the bar and then this is of that beautiful booth. The Skipper Society is in the same location as the Bayou. It's got a lot of it's nods, of course, to the Jungle Cruise.
The it's all themed Jungle Cruise. The drinks, they have a hippopotami tie. They have several drinks that are from Trader Sam's. They also have a salted caramel martini that comes with a waffle garnish. It's delicious. I drank it myself.
And of course you can buy waffles as snacks. This is a music venue. I will call this. I think this is like, that's how I think of it. There's a beautiful stage here that I'm showing. They had a musical group called the. I think they were called the De Blooners, but Matt Grinke was the pianist. And then there was, you know, there were two guitarists, a bass guitarist.
They were playing music there pretty much every night for at least, you know, an hour or two, on and off. There were a lot of trivias that were done in this space as well. But I will say a lot of our cruise this was used for various like media filming and whatnot. So there were times where it was roped off. So we didn't get to really spend a ton of time in here. Although we, as I mention, we did come get a drink, but we did that before heading to the theater.
[00:30:09] Speaker B: Yes. I just add that I think that, you know, much like on the Wish with the Bayou space, it took me a little bit of time to get used to the idea of the lounges not being kind of separated out in their own adult district. And now I love it. I just feel like it creates this vibrancy in the center of the ship as you're coming and going from the shows or the shop. And you know, in the daytime, you know, all are welcome. In the evening, it becomes more of an adult area. But it's just, it feels more vibrant. Not like you're like hidden away, like, oh, I'M an adult on a Disney ship. It's like, hey, yes, I am an adult on a Disney ship and I'm going to embrace everything about this theming. Grab one of those. There's two booths. Grab one of those booths if you can.
And you know, I think it's a great area.
[00:31:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Now, of course, we have to talk about everyone's, you know, what everyone is enamored with right now, which is the Haunted Mansion Parlor. I'm going to just let this kind of play as we go. I've got a bunch of different videos and I'll try and play a few of them. Some of them have lots of people in them. I can't really help you with that. I haven't had a chance to really do a ton of editing on these videos yet, but my hope is I'll be able to get some of these up on social media soon. But it was packed a lot. Lot of the time this venue is all ages until 9pm and then after 9, 9pm and later it is adults only venue. This was very. We'll call this oversubscribed. I mean, it is an. It's an amazing space. I'm not trying to downplay it. It's a really cool space. But it was packed all the time. There are people lining up for it all the time. It's a small space. I don't think. I don't think I really remembered how small it is because comparatively on the wish, it's very open and there's not usually a ton of people in it. On the Treasure, there's always a ton of people in it and there's a lot of sound effects going on and lighting effects going on. So it's darker a lot of the time. There's times where the lights go lighter, but it is definitely a really, really, really cool space.
To me, one of the best things about this space is the pictures that sing. They're sing singing pictures on the wall. They sing the ghosts come out to whatever song.
Thank you. Grim grinning ghosts come out to social laws. They do that a lot.
[00:32:51] Speaker B: It feels like you're on the Haunted Mansion attraction with a cocktail in your hand. And you get. When you're on the Haunted Mansion attraction, you look the dining room and they're all dancing and you just think, I would love to just go down there and hang out. It's kind of like that. You're actually in it. You. Every detail is, you know. And yes, it's darker, but it feels more intimate. And again, it's just lush. The lights, the lighting does change, get more bright at times. There's so many features of the show that I mean there's no way that we saw all of them.
Great drink menu, really, really fun. So take your time. Another reason that this is great to be on a seven night because you'll have many opportunities to enjoy it.
[00:33:48] Speaker A: Absolutely. I mean right here we see the skeleton fish. This is a super cool effect.
Obviously. Here's a picture of me at the entrance.
I have quite a few more photos and videos but it honestly too many to show you here unless we're going to spend an entire show talking about the Haunted Mansion. But I do, there was one more I wanted to show.
This one is fun and this is the one where he's going to be singing. So I don't know if you can hear that.
[00:34:23] Speaker B: Very minimally.
[00:34:25] Speaker A: Okay. It's quite quiet. Yeah. Anyway, it's a very cool effect that I thought folks would get a kick, kick out of. All right, well, I feel like now is the time to talk about Plaza de Coco.
[00:34:40] Speaker B: And you know what, Just one last follow up on Haunted Mansion because this is a question we get over and over again is, is there going to be a reservation system, a virtual queue for Haunted Mansion that was not in place for our cruise, which you know, was maybe only about 40% capacity. So it was not necessary. But we, the answer is we really don't know. We hope that they'll have something in place so that it feels more systematized and less chaotic. But maybe Sam and Brian will report back after their voyage.
[00:35:17] Speaker A: Yeah, I mean what they've said is no, that's their, the, the words thus far. This is what they've said. They've said no, they're not going to have a reservation system in place.
But I wonder and I'm hoping that will change when they've got 4,000 passengers on board. Because I, we were on, it was like maybe 1700 passengers. Of course it was almost all adults. There were some kids but not very many.
And so all of the bar spaces were generally oversubscribed because it's more adults. But we still had less than half the capacity of sailing. Normal sailing would have. So I'm hopeful that they will institute a reservation system. They do have a 45 minute, I believe time limit, although I'm not sure how much they were actually enforcing. I don't know that they needed to enforce it so much on a three night sailing because even though there was always very full, people were getting to come in and spend time there. So, yeah, here's us in Plaza de Coco.
This is an incredible addition to the Disney portfolio, in my opinion. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the movie be. I gotta show you the chips and salsa. Of course, I have pro tip. Yeah, give the pro tip.
[00:36:41] Speaker B: As soon as you sit down, ask for more. More salsa. Otherwise they're just going to give you that one initial bowl. We knew to ask for it right away because, you know, most of us are used to having one bowl per person when you go to. Out to Tex Mex. So go ahead and ask for more salsa right away. And if you do the chips and guac, that's a separate type of blue chip that is served with it.
[00:37:04] Speaker A: Yeah, but it only comes with like two chips. I thought that was a little. Yeah, that was a little odd. Yeah. So the guac came as like my. I ordered it and Karen ordered it and it's like a bowl of guac. It's a perfect size bowl of guac for me. But it only had like two chips in it. And by the time it came, we were basically done with our regular chips. So what I need to do or tell others to do is pace yourself on the chips in the middle of the table if you're going to order the guac so that you can eat them with the guac, even. I mean, this also is good, but. But eat them with the guac. The show is. Is wonderful. The show is. It's. We saw the Day of the Dead show. So this is the second show, not the first show. So it is the ancestors that are the, like the skeleton. The skeleton people, they come. So his. It's like his great, great great great grandmother and grandfather that come out and they sing. They did a little bit of Remember Me, a little bit of Poco Loco. They do some other songs. There's like a flamenco style dancer who dances. There is a band, like a mariachi band that's playing the whole time.
[00:38:16] Speaker B: So I learned that every state in Mexico has their own folk dance that you, the children learn growing up. And so this, this was folk dancing from Guadalajara. The performers are all Mexican American or Mexican, you know, some connection to that culture so that they really understood the stories that they were telling through song and dance. Yeah, the mariachi band was incredible. A lot of the music is in Spanish, but the story really unfolds in a way I think that is moving. If you really take the time to pay attention to the story in the Plaza de Coco experience, you can't help but be moved by it. And there's some touching moments that kind of help pull it all together towards the end to stay through the entire show. And it is a long show. It goes throughout your dinner service. It is not like there, you know, stops and starts. It's not just like a run, you know, quick thing. It is throughout the whole dinner.
[00:39:26] Speaker A: Yeah. And, and Linda's got. Got me the names here. And by the way, I saw multiple comments saying 53 of the feathers. So thank you for all of. All of you who remembered the number of peacocks feathers, but Hector and Imelda. So they are the great, great, great, great, whatever. I don't know how many greats. But the grandparents. So they are. They come and they dance and they sing as well.
So Beth is asking about the food.
I am going to. I'm going to show you what was, I think, our favorite. Oh, wrong direction. But here's more of Miguel.
This, I think, was maybe one of our favorite dishes. This is the chicken enchiladas appetizer. I'm going to say there were hits and misses on this menu. You.
There were more hits than misses, though. I thought that this, I thought the queso was a great dish.
I thought this chicken enchilada appetizer was great. There was a pork carnitas that Leia ordered that was fabulous. Although they didn't bring her the tortilla shells. We didn't need them. We had enough carbs with all the chips that we all ate. But.
And then of the desserts, I ordered the sundae, which was great. You ordered the churros, which were really good. And then there. We also had a cappuccino.
[00:40:45] Speaker B: Cappuccino cheese, cheesecake brulee. Cappuccino cheesecake. Brulee was probably the best version of cheesecake I had on board.
I think you said queso, but you meant to say guacamole.
[00:40:56] Speaker A: Oh, guac. Not quite.
[00:40:57] Speaker B: There was no, sadly, no queso. You know, we might have to start a petition. We also tried the chicken mole, which we thought was quite good. You know, some people, if you're not used to mole, you might think, you know, this doesn't look. Look appealing. And I don't know if I've ever seen chicken mole like, you know, except maybe it's super, super high end places, but it's not meant to. It's very much a home stew kind of dish. And. But that was actually quite good.
I think the soups were more of a miss, sadly, but they're still working. And I ordered the steak that sounded really good on the menu. And I was served a prime rib.
It turned. It seems like this was a supply issue again. You know, it's still a test cruise. So you know their intentions of what's on the menu. I think they just weren't able to execute it for whatever reason. It was a fine prime rib and twice baked potato, but not what I was expecting. But so many, you know, enough dishes on in the restaurant to do a great job. Yes. We had. There were several great margaritas at the table.
They also have the. Is it horchata, which is like that.
[00:42:13] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:42:13] Speaker B: And you could get a souvenir cup with that. It's delicious.
[00:42:16] Speaker A: That's right. I think horchata.
[00:42:18] Speaker B: Yeah. So lots of great beverage options.
Really. The bar menu on board this ship.
Everywhere you go. Everywhere you go. Yeah.
[00:42:30] Speaker A: And Haunted Mansion. I should have mentioned I had the. I think it's the something catch. I can't remember. I have a picture of the menu that I'll post online. But yeah, really great, really great drink there. The banana bread Sunda. Sunday was the sundae that I was talking about that was with dulce de leche ice cream. That was fantastic. I had the sea bass as my main and it was good, but it wasn't great. I've had a better sea bass in Enchanted Garden. So, you know, take that for with you. Well, it wasn't bad though. So it's not like I would say I wouldn't order it again. I just, I would order the carnitas that Leia ordered. I thought were the best, were the best of the entrees. So yeah, I thought the food, like I said, hits and misses.
But in general, I think overall it was super good. So definitely good stuff on the menu. And this I think overall is a real hit.
[00:43:29] Speaker B: And we should also point out that we didn't experience it. But Coco is going to have entertainment on both nights.
[00:43:34] Speaker A: Right.
[00:43:35] Speaker B: So the first night apparently is going to be more chill. It's going to, you know, not be quite the lengthy show. I think it's going to be more like background kind of music, but it's still kind of telling you the story and starting to connect you to the family that you're hanging out with before the Dia de los Muertos celebration, which is the second night show.
[00:43:55] Speaker A: Yeah. Okay. The next thing we have to talk about, and this is probably the thing, if somebody was going to say what is the reason to go on this ship? I mean, there is, there is literally, I'm going to say it. There is There is a word that.
[00:44:11] Speaker B: Oh, yes.
[00:44:15] Speaker A: And that word is Moana.
[00:44:17] Speaker B: Moana.
[00:44:18] Speaker A: That word is Moana. Okay. So fans of the DCL duo podcast know that I always tell you that Beauty and the Beast is the best show on Disney Cruise Line. Well, Beauty and Beast just got knocked down one peg because Disney tale of Moana has beaten Beauty and the Beast for that top spot, that number one spot. And this is just. This is early days for this show. Right. But this show was incredible from minute to minute it started. I have to. I had a picture here. It actually starts before the show starts.
[00:44:55] Speaker B: Exactly. There's pre show entertainment. So get. If you, you know, if you are the type that likes to get to your seat early or you avoid getting to your seat early because you think I'm going to be bored, get to your seat early, get a great seat. Because there's all kinds of entertainment and things going around and cast interaction that just flows into the opening of the show.
[00:45:21] Speaker A: Yeah. This gentleman who was standing right in front of us as we were seated in the audience before the show starts, he's talking to us. He's telling us about Moana's people and about their history of being wayfinders and, you know, fishermen and all of that. And he ends up being a different character in the actual show. He ends up being the old tribal leader from the past when they were white wayfinders before they stopped being wayfinders in Moana's time. And then he's also in Beauty and the Beast. He plays Maurice. He plays Belle's father, Maurice.
[00:45:59] Speaker B: Such a great Maurice.
[00:46:01] Speaker A: Yeah. So this gentleman was fantastic. He is one of the. Definitely one of. One of the stars. But I cannot stress how much the woman who plays Moana, who is, I believe, a Hawaiian actress. I apologize, I don't know her name. You know, there's no playbill on these shows that. Unfortunately, we were talking about this because it should be.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: Because the talent is incredible.
[00:46:26] Speaker A: It is so good. So good.
[00:46:28] Speaker B: And the great thing about the Treasure is that you have the number one and number two shows on Missy Cruise Line.
[00:46:36] Speaker A: Exactly, exactly. And you have the number one of the, what I'll call variety shows as well.
[00:46:44] Speaker B: The welcome to your cruise show.
[00:46:46] Speaker A: Right. So well, seas the adventure is that, you know, compilation show or variety show where they've strung together a plot with a bunch of different songs and they've done it. Really? Really. In my opinion, I think it's better than Dreams and Believe that are on the other ships. There are others that disagree. They're wrong. That's okay, it's my show. But you have. As far as full stage shows, as Karen mentioned, you have the number one and the number two on one ship. So we got to see Seize the We. We went to all three shows. I'm going to go on the seven night to all three shows also. We got Seas the Adventure, then we had Moana, then we had Beauty and the Beast. So it was really nice to be able to do a back to back comparison. And this. This is saying nothing bad about Beauty and the Beast because Beauty and the Beast is still fabulous. We had a fabulous Belle. We had a fabulous Maurice. We had a fabulous Gaston. We had a fabulous Beast. I mean, it was. The cast. Every person is like better than the next.
It is just incredible. I cannot even tell you, Wesley. We are not living in an alternate timeline in the multiverse. We are still in this. This universe.
[00:48:00] Speaker B: This is reality. And the circumstances on the high seas have now changed.
[00:48:06] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:48:07] Speaker B: So, honestly, Moana had us so moved and wowed that had we not had cocoa for dinner, we would have skipped dinner and watch it all over again.
[00:48:22] Speaker A: All over again. Yes.
[00:48:23] Speaker B: It was that amazing. I don't think we want to give away too. You know, we don't want to give away any spoilers.
[00:48:30] Speaker A: I just want to say there's puppetry in. I just. There's some. There's just. You people know that Taka is a. Is a puppet because they've set. They've announced that and they show renderings. I don't have any pictures of it anyway, because it's in the middle. You know, it's in the show. So you can't take pictures during the show. All I have is the pictures from the bows and pictures from before the show. But let's just say Taka Te Fiti is incredible. So, like, it's. And everything about the show is incredible.
[00:49:00] Speaker B: There's just so many.
So many things. So many things from every moment. And it's just. I mean, they did. If they just captured the whole essence of Moana, it's almost like it always was a stage show.
[00:49:14] Speaker A: Yes.
[00:49:15] Speaker B: And I feel like. Like they need to work on it, add some more scenes and bring it out to Broadway, because it was that good.
[00:49:27] Speaker A: And they do cut out a few. There are some sequences, so there's some characters and some things that you know from the movie that you're not going to see in the show. I'm not going to say what they are, but there are some things. As far as songs go, pretty much all of them. I mean, I Don't want to tell you how they do Tamato and Shinee, but I'm going to tell you they do it like in an incredible, incredible way.
And Tamachoa is also pretty amazing, so. Oh, I love this.
Connecticut is saying there is a before treasure and after treasure on the duo timeline from here on out. Right.
And you are right now there is a. Okay, so maybe there's a multiverse, but it's only a before treasure and after treasure and accessible adventures with Andrew, which is either Andrew or Vanessa are asking about matinee shows. We don't know. Or it's Vanessa is asking they might do matinee shows. I wouldn't be surprised on a seven night if they do it. They obviously didn't do it on a three night.
Linda's asking a question about the Kakamora.
Linda, I'm gonna talk. I'm not gonna say it on the show, but I'll message you and let you.
And everybody's saying they are loving everything that they're hearing about the treasure and. Good, because that's what you should be getting from this show.
[00:50:57] Speaker B: There is nothing not to love.
Now listen, it's still the same Bones, right? It is still the same deck plan as the Wish. They made no structural changes. And I think there was a comment about that we still have, you know, the differences in terms of the layouts of the pools and the quiet cove area for adults.
I think that this is going to have people giving this class of ship a second look because, you know, it is. The Wish is still a great ship. It's just that people, I think there was negative press from the issues with the maiden voyage, the delays and the rough start to it. And then people are just not used to that deck plan. And especially for, you know, repeat, die hard Disney cruisers, it was hard to wrap your head around. Now I think the Treasure is going to open up everybody's mindset to maybe we should experience the Wish as well or give it or give this type of ship this another chance. Because you're not going to want to miss out on. On Moana for sure. Like, I mean, you gotta go on for seven days, immerse yourself in it. You're gonna have time to experience all these incredible things on board.
[00:52:16] Speaker A: Yeah. Now I see Chris is saying, Chris Kidder saying, totally agree, the ships make makes me want to seek out and try a Wish class ship. Well, I'm gonna give you another reason that you're gonna want to seek out a Wish class ship. The Treasure specifically. And it's Two words. They're both. They're both spice places. And they are sage and coriander. Sage and coriander are two. I'll call them shipwide entertainers. They are singers, dancers, comedians, improv artists. I don't know how else to describe them. They do a bunch of shows across this treasure we got. I got to experience, I think three of their different show. No, four of their different shows. One of some of them are 18 plus. Some of them are family friendly. So I think I saw two of each with involving sage and coriander. They also kicked off the sail away party.
This Indiana Jones. Then choose wisely. An Indiana Jones comedy adventure that I'm showing you the description. I just screenshot this from my phone from the app is one of the things they do. This one was done in they do things in Sarabi. They do things in the Grand Hall. This one was a retelling of all Indiana Jones movies, movies by two actors.
And every time there would be sort of a choose your own adventure moment where you could choose that Indy did X or did Y. And let's just say if Indy did X, things maybe didn't go so well. And if they Indy chose why things went well. And if things didn't go so well, they did sort of a rewind and a redo. And like I said, they went through all of the Indiana Jones movies and. And in, you know, 45 minutes maybe or an hour. And this was a hilarious retelling of Indiana Jones story. So I went and saw this in Sarabi. I think this was on the first night.
This is actually a shot from during that show.
There are. Let me find one of the other. There's some other descriptions of things that they did. They did a, a. This one was really fun. Jungle Cruise, an interactive story adventure. This was a family friendly experience. This was Skipper Frank and Skipper Lily. So this was like, if you don't have puns in the Skipper Society lounge and they don't do the whole Skipper shtick like they do in Trader Sam's and on the Jungle Cruise. But if you like the Jungle Cruise and you like puns, you're going to want to go to this. This is done. This was in the afternoon, I think on Castaway Day. I went to this. Basically I participated. So I was in one of the boats on the floor of the grand hall. And it was a competition between two different teams that were Team Frank and Team Lily. And it was hilarious. It was ridiculous. It's everything you want out of something Jungle Cruise themed. So I Highly recommend going to that. This is a picture of me with the two guides, Coriander and Sage, who played Skipper Frank and Skipper Lily.
There's also stories from the Aladdin retold. This is again a retelling of the story of Aladdin. But this is where Coriander and Sage play every character in the story of Aladdin.
It's also hilarious. Well done. This is done because it's done in the Grand Hall. This is all ages as well. And then here's a picture from it. And then they also sort of kick off the treasure found which is the, let's call it the closing or goodbye show on the Disney Treasure where you're gonna see lots of different characters and there's gonna be sort of they're finding treasure at the very end of the cruise. And then there's a whole thing with the chandelier and the lighting and different characters appear. So really, really incredible. Like I said, performers. This is an addition. I mean, this is different than you have. You do have on the Wish. You have some little shows that are done on that stage in the grand hall and they're super talented as well. But this is a completely additional experience, I want to say, on the Treasure. And maybe because it's a seven night cruise, they felt like they needed some more entertainment.
I think it's just really well done.
And I was incredibly impressed with these, you know, these two actors who did all of these different shows. Karen, have I missed anything that we wanted to talk about? There's so much to talk about with this ship. Oh, sure.
[00:56:57] Speaker B: Well, we see several questions about Unchartered Adventure. Yes, it is available on the Disney Treasure. I loaded it and played it for about 30 seconds. So I can't really speak to it just because we were packing so much in. Also had some, some different meetings, we had different people. I think Sam's gonna have probably a whole other show about some of. Some of the folks that she got to interview on board that were special guests. It was just so much going on in this kind of special preview sailing.
I don't know if were those same two hosts that were hosting Match or matey.
[00:57:34] Speaker A: Yes, they were also.
[00:57:35] Speaker B: Thank you.
[00:57:36] Speaker A: That was the one thing I forgot to mention. Match your matey. So instead of match your mate, we had a pirate themed match your matey and they hosted Match your matey and.
[00:57:44] Speaker B: You know, after watch and got your mate on like dozens of cruises. This was a fun twist. I mean it's essentially the same, you know, the same game, the same show. But the questions all have pirate themes to them. And the, there's, you know, a host and hostess that are asking the questions and guiding the whole show. And you know, they're dressed in their pirate garb and you know, that was pirate night, right? It was after fireworks that we came down.
So also there's the fireworks show.
Another reason to sell wish or treasure for that show for something new if you haven't experienced that.
So just, y'all just go.
Somebody asked about pricing and you know, I, I do think that they're going to be selling the treasure after all this incredible coverage. Everybody is really, really excited about this. So I don't know what that's going to do to pricing. Usually. I think seven days can be a better value overall than the shorter cruises when you look on it, look at it on a price per night type basis. But still, I mean, we, we love all the Disney ships, right? There's pros and cons. There's things. There's something to enjoy on everyone.
[00:59:08] Speaker A: And we didn't even talk about Periscope Pub, which is really cool, by the way, I just realized. But listen, listen, Periscope Pub is really cool. We talked about it a lot on our shows with Benji and with, and with Scott Gustin. Just about the theming. It's understated, but it's really well done. I have heard that the Periscope is going to eventually show you the bridge view. So it's not ready yet, but it's going to. I wanted to show my Skipper society T shirt. I thought that was kind of a fun thing. I also got, of course, a hat box, ghost sipper. I did get another cup from Haunted Mansion. I've got the plushies right. There's some great merchandise also.
[00:59:50] Speaker B: The merch is great. I have my inaugural sailing sweatshirt.
I have, I bought the statue.
If you are taking this home, don't take it out of the box. This arm breaks. Either of these arms can break very easily. I did have to run downstairs last night and, and knock on the door after they close to get them to give me a new one.
Great merchandise on board.
Yeah, the crew is really, really excited to be there.
It's interesting. We met many crew members that are completely new to Disney Cruise Line.
But, you know, they've had plenty of time to learn. We saw them learning. That's what these test cruises are for. And I think they have picked good people with good ability to immerse themselves in this standards of Disney Cruise Line customer service. And you know, as they're growing they're going to have to bring new fresh faces. So that was exciting.
[01:00:51] Speaker A: Yeah.
[01:00:52] Speaker B: We didn't see the obstacle course yet.
[01:00:55] Speaker A: Yes, but it is there is an obstacle. So I wanted to answer Josh's question. Does the ship have incredible inflatable obstacle course? The answer is yes, but it wasn't out during our three night sailing or we've been told yes, but it wasn't out during our three night sailing. But of course that makes sense because it would be probably out on a ship when it's got more kids and probably also out when it's, you know, twice in a seven still have the.
[01:01:17] Speaker B: Hero zone where that incredible obstacle course it would be set up. The kids clubs, Sam, you have those queued up. You're journey.
[01:01:28] Speaker A: I do of them queued up kids club are I will tell you they're beautiful but they are exactly like the Wish. So they're pretty much identical to Wish. So if you've seen the kids clubs on the Wish you will and like you will like the kids both the Oceaneers Club, the Edge and the Vibe with that I've got to wrap up the show. We're already at over an hour in. I want to let folks know we will be back tomorrow night but an hour earlier tomorrow because Nathan has a band concert tomorrow and we can't be late for his band concert. So we will be on at 4:30pm Pacific, 7:30pm Eastern tomorrow night. I will have Chris Vorbeck with me. We're going to get his take. You'll get more of my take.
