[00:02:07] Speaker A: It's scrolling across the bottom of the screen right now, so you can email them dclduoypathunwinding.com or head over to mypathunwinding.com dcduo. Either way, you can also just reach out to them directly. Just please let them know that DCL Duo sent you their way so that the lovely folks over there know that when we tell you about them, you know that it means something to you. So anyway, with that, we have one other group of people we want to thank before we dive into the show, and that is our Pat. We like to Occasionally thank them on the air. The list is growing and so the time it takes to do this is growing as well. But it's important to us because these folks spend time or give us money every month to help deferral show. [00:02:46] Speaker C: So we can come to you live once a week, recorded once a week, sometimes twice a week. So yeah, these people make the show happen. [00:02:53] Speaker A: We do. I I It's been a while since we've said this. We've got a lot of new listeners out there. So I want to say this. We don't put this money in our pocket and go pay for cruises with it. We pay, we use the money that we collect through the show. Whether that's through the merchandising sales on Etsy, the Patreon, our behind the scenes subscriptions that we have or, or sponsorships. Sponsorships, thank you. Sponsorships we have. We use that to defray the cost of the show and that is it. And anything after that we donate to charity, a healthy donation of charity at the end of the year because frankly we think that it's more important than, than trying to pay for our cruises. So anyway, just want to thank some folks on here. So I'm going to do this in order of tier. I'm going to start our animators palette here. Ever so fun. And I want to thank Steve Elsis, Shanna Barrett, Robert Taylor, Robbie and Jillian Abney, Lori Hotung, Joshua McHenry, Heather Wilson. The good folks over at the Dillos, Diz shout out to Jen and Frank over there. Derek Sassman, Dave Hall, Constance Presley, Chris Brown, Brittany Simon, Bridget Casey, Ashley Norton, Anna Tracy and Michael Andreco kick us off at the Palo brunch tier along with Larry Fine. The great folks over at Crossmouse Adventures we got to sail with recently. Jeff Lynwood, Erica Emily, Fay Abbott, Edward Lynn, Drew Curry and of course Haley Curry. Dennis Keithley, Chris Wynn, Beth Gentry, Sonya Allen kicks us off at the Pelo dinner tier, an ever so delicious tier. Megan Guise, Lauren Porter, Karen Toprose, Karen Shelton, Jennifer Swart, Josh Wilson, Daily MTP writer Cindy Leichner, Christopher Voraback, Chris Braga. Brett, I think this is Brett Gresham, but I'm not entirely sure. Brett Ann Witten, Andrea Cobb. And then kicking us off at our Remy brunch tier. For the truly discerning palette. Thomas Rogers, Sean Burns, Erica Nyman, Amy Y, Eric Neiman. Neiman. Sorry, I keep saying. Nyman Neiman, Amy Y. And then at our most discerning tier, our Remy dinner tier, we've got CT Suak and the great folks over at Adventures and Mouse Capades. So love it. [00:05:11] Speaker C: Thank you to all, Nathan and Alicia at Adventures and Mascapades. We really appreciate you. I got to put this comment up. Tracy says of course, for Apollo Brunch, chocolate souffle, but chocolate souffles are at Palo dinner, Tracy. So apparently you've got to upgrade your donation and get that Paulo dinner. [00:05:28] Speaker A: So all of our Patreons out there, if you don't know that we have a Patreon program, you can over to patreon.com dc do you want to sign up? And it really, really helps us out. And we appreciate each and every one of our Patreons for however little or much they can contribute. It is fantastic. We appreciate it. So. All right. With that, we've got some DCL news. I'm going to bring our guests in to talk DCL news with us. Right, Sam? We're going to do. [00:05:49] Speaker C: Yes, let's bring, let's bring Gail and Cara in with us. The sailing slots, as they like to call themselves. We are welco coming back to our show. Gail and Kara, it's wonderful to see you guys. [00:06:00] Speaker D: Good to see you too. Thank you for having us. [00:06:03] Speaker C: Yeah. We're so excited to talk about your ABD river cruise in Belgium and Holland. But before we get to that, we need to talk DCL news because this just came out in like the last day or two, I think actually Laughing Place maybe posted this two days ago, but other sources were posting this yesterday and today and that is that starting in fall of 20 or sorry, in sometime in 2027. We don't even know if it's fall. [00:06:31] Speaker A: We don't know when, when it is. [00:06:32] Speaker C: Yeah, sometime in 2027, there is going to be a ship sailing full time out of the Port of Galveston, Texas. And this really has come from one of the board members of I think the Port of Galveston posted like basically their, their meeting approving this contract. I haven't looked at it myself, so I don't know the timing, but I thought this was super interest because we know from the Port of Avalon in Catalina, which is of course off the coast of California, that starting in fall of 2027 they are going to have basically priority berth all year round for one ship in Catalina. Now, not for just for port stops, not for embarkation and debarkation. But this is really interesting because now I feel like we're basically being told not by Disney but by these different ports that starting in at least fall of 2027, we're going to have one ship fully on the west coast and one ship fully out of Texas. I mean, that's how I take it. Gail, Cara, do you guys take this the same way? [00:07:38] Speaker B: Yes, absolutely. [00:07:39] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:07:41] Speaker C: It's crazy. Brian's got some prognostications about which ship he thinks is going to go to Galveston, which I think is really interesting. [00:07:50] Speaker A: I'll leave the prognosticating to CT if he's out there watching or listening after the fact. But I mean, and if you'd asked me earlier today, I would have said because a bunch of people were like, oh, we're going to get the new ship. I. I don't think Galveston's going to see the newest ship in the fleet. Now, initially I would have said that because I don't think Galveston currently supports LNG refueling, which means they can't fuel the Wish class ships. However, I did look up today and it does appear that the Port of Galveston is building LNG bunker fueling capability. And so that would mean that they. And it's supposed to happen in 2027. So these two things aligning. I still don't think you're going to get the newest ship in 2027. I don't think they're going to do like a maiden voyage and base a ship out of Galveston. What I do think could happen is we could see the Wish transition over to Galveston to do shorter sailings out of Galveston. Those Western Caribbean Mexican Riviera kind of. [00:08:45] Speaker C: Yeah, like a 4, 4, 5 kind of rotation. [00:08:48] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. [00:08:49] Speaker C: And then you would see, because we know that there's a new ship coming in 2027. So let's assume it's going to be end of the year in 2027, just because that seems to be the pattern that Disney's had for the last, at least for obviously, Treasure and Destiny. And so if we say, let's say fall, you could see them moving the Wish and then the newest ship taking over the Wishes rotation, meaning the three, four night sailings. Because of course, the three, four night sailings. One of the ways to attract people to those shorter sailings is having a new ship. I also think, though, they could do. I. I'm actually a little bit of a difference of opinion, Brian, on this. I think they could actually have the newest ship sailing out of Galveston in order to attract more people to the port, because that's what they're doing with the Destiny in Port Everglades. [00:09:39] Speaker A: Yeah, but I think the Port Everglades problem is much more acute than the Galveston problem, if that makes sense. Like they have never had success getting people to sail Disney Cruise Line or significant success sailing Disney Cruise Line out of Miami. And it's because of theme park proximity. I do think that Texas presents a bigger market for them and it also can draw in from like California and the surroundings, you know, surrounding states. So I'm less concerned about them being able to draw an audience. The issue with Miami, Fort Lauderdale is most of your audience is in Orlando and it's going to be far easier to head to Port Canaveral than it is to like go down to Miami. Brightline didn't really move the needle for them on that. So they've got to, they got to do something to make that a much more attractive departure. What they've actually done is two things, right? Lookout Key, you can only get there really if you sail out of Fort Lauderdale and then put a, put the Destiny in there. And they've got two ships down there now to fill. So, yeah, the need to have a newer ship is also probably in part because they got to sail two, two ships out of that port now for their port commitment. So I would expect, I would not be surprised to see the Wish transition over. I would be surprised to see the Treasure move over there. Maybe the Destiny moves over and the newest ship goes down to Fort Lauderdale again. Who knows? But. [00:10:55] Speaker C: Or they could do a three way switch, right? They could make the move the Wish to Galveston, move the Destiny to Port Canaveral and put the newest ship in port ever. I mean, I don't know. [00:11:04] Speaker A: Tracy's asking, would they use the ship to do Panama? I mean, the problem is, Tracy, what they're saying is they're going to sail year round out of Galveston, which means that ship would never leave Galveston. I, I also just would say I have a hard time believing that. I, like, I do have a hard time believing they're gonna have a ship permanently in Galveston. I could see a ship being there 6. [00:11:25] Speaker C: Most of the year. [00:11:26] Speaker A: Most of the year. But you know, I, yeah, I, we shall see. It may be the case that they approved an agreement that allows them to be up there the full year. But you know, ultimately these, yeah, well, ultimately these agreements are about number of stops and things like that, number of. [00:11:39] Speaker C: Passengers through, that sort of thing. Well, Ashley, is. Does Galveston have a Disney branded terminal right now? The answer is no. That does not mean that that couldn't change though. If they're building an LNG fueling, you know, refueling area, like they could be doing that at a new terminal and that could be a Disney terminal. So it's certainly possible. [00:12:00] Speaker A: If they're going to be there year round, then I think Disney's going to have to invest in a terminal. I don't see a way around that if they're going to be there year round because they're sharing a Royal Caribbean terminal, I think it is right now. So, yeah, I mean, I want them to go back to New Orleans. So what I'm hoping is they'll have a ship that's permanently in air quotes for people who are listening and not watching this live at home, you know. So I hope they'll have the ship there most of the year, but then maybe, you know, let her go off and do a Panama Canal cruise, you know, eastbound, westbound or, you know, that seems less likely to me is more likely they might ship it over to New Orleans a couple times. Although I'll tell you what, that then completely acts as a Wish Class ship because Wish Class cannot fit up the Mississippi river. And even if they could, they can't do the turn at the bridge in New Orleans. So. [00:12:48] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, well. And you know, we're not going to see one of the Wish class ships go through the Panama Canal anyway because you have to have the LNG fuel on the. Somewhere on the west coast and not. They don't have that, I don't think. [00:13:01] Speaker A: Well, they won't have it. They won't have it at San Diego, but they very well could have it at Port. [00:13:05] Speaker C: Right. Long beach or something. Yeah, yeah. So we'll, we'll see. That could be. I think that's probably a little bit further down the line though. So anyway. Yeah, so we'll see, we'll see what happens there. Well, anyway, that's it for news. I don't, I haven't heard anything else late. [00:13:23] Speaker A: I did hear one thing that I, I'm not going to delve into too deeply. I just want to put a call out for anyone who might have been on the sailing and is listening to this after the fact to reach out if you know more. I did hear yesterday. That was yesterday. Or the day before that. The wonder. Yeah, the wonder up in Alaska that they had some interesting things happening on board around key card scanning and crew trying to make sure that everyone had all members of their party. It sounds like something may have fallen off the ship and it was unclear if that was a person or a thing. We don't know more or. I don't know more at this point. I haven't checked the news recently, but it did seem like there was an interesting protocol being implemented there. And it was also unclear. Seems like it was about something going overboard. But some other people were saying it might have also been about a potential stowaway on the ship, which I find difficult to believe. I don't know how you can get on one of those ships without. Without a key card. [00:14:17] Speaker C: But Ashley's asking us to get to the bottom of this. [00:14:20] Speaker A: Brian, our crack reporting team is on the ground up there. Ashley. Yeah, we don't have. It's just us. [00:14:27] Speaker C: So anyway, we've been asking around. We haven't heard anything reliable yet. [00:14:32] Speaker A: You were on that sailing. We'd love to know more and. Or reach out. I would just be curious to know more about what happened. But with that, yes, we need to talk about Adventures by Disney. [00:14:42] Speaker C: Before we dive into talking about this wonderful itinerary, you all have to get a refresher on who we're talking to here. Gail and Kara, as they like to call themselves, the sailing sloths, which I love. They have been on the show multiple times. We've talked about cruising. We've talked about food. We have, you know, we. This is, I think, the first time we're going to get to talk to them about Adventures by Disney. But they are veterans of Disney Cruise Line. And Gail is a travel advisor with off to Neverland Travel. And so why don't you guys tell us. Kara, why don't you tell us your, like, how many times you guys have been cruising and the different itineraries. And was this your first adventure on Adventures by Disney? [00:15:27] Speaker D: So we have been on 19 and 20 DCL cruises, respectively. This was our first adventure by Disney DCL. We have done. I've done Alaska. We've done the Med. We've done Northern Europe. We've done Eastern and Western multiple times. We've done the Bahamas a few times. We did the repo from Vancouver to San Diego. We've done a couple of others out of San Diego. What am I forgetting? [00:16:04] Speaker B: I think you did great. [00:16:05] Speaker D: Okay, so this is our first ever adventure by Disney. [00:16:10] Speaker C: Awesome. Now, Gail, remind us why or our audience. We know, but remind. Tell our audience why you guys booked this particular adventure. [00:16:22] Speaker B: So it's very interesting. We planned out who was talking about what before we got on here, but. [00:16:28] Speaker C: I was throwing you all up. I'm sorry, you guys. [00:16:33] Speaker B: We reviewed this today, so I'm gonna go over that. Kara has had tulip time on her list for a very long time, probably in 16 or 17. She wanted to do a river cruise. And I said, we are not old. [00:16:47] Speaker C: Enough to do a River cruise. [00:16:50] Speaker B: And that got set aside. And then. [00:16:55] Speaker A: We'Re gonna tell Emma she's to start a new site called River Cruising isn't just for old people. [00:17:01] Speaker B: Correct. And so time went by, and as we have talked before, Kara had a cancer treatment journey. And so in the middle of chemo, Disney announced that they were going to have their first and only Tulip Time river cruise. And that just seemed like a sign. And as fast as I could, I was like, disney, take my money. [00:17:29] Speaker C: I love that. I love that. It's such a fabulous idea and way to celebrate, of course, this ridiculous journey that you all have been on. Kara. Well, let's talk about this itinerary and where you guys went first. Brian, you're going to have to move the slide forward. [00:17:48] Speaker A: Moving the slide forward. Here we go. There we go. Nope. No, it's building. [00:17:54] Speaker C: There you go. [00:17:54] Speaker A: There we go. [00:17:55] Speaker C: All right. Yeah. [00:17:57] Speaker D: So we flew from here in Indiana, where we live, over to London, and we spent four nights in London on our own. And then we took two trains to get from London to Amsterdam. We did a night in Amsterdam on our own, and then we took two nights in Amsterdam on our own. And then we boarded the beautiful Amalucia, and we were on amalucia for seven nights before we then flew back home. [00:18:25] Speaker C: Awesome. All right, Brian, you're gonna have to keep advancing. So here is your entire itinerary. How did you guys decide on what to do for your pre abd? Like, what? Were there sort of bucket list things that you wanted to hit in London or Amsterdam, or were you just like, oh, well, it's easier to fly to London, so we're just going to do that and adjust to the time zone or something? [00:18:52] Speaker D: No. Also, back in about 2017, Gail took a group of students on a study abroad to London, and she got to do the Harry Potter studio when she was there. And I've been jealous ever since. Let's be honest. It was just jealousy. So every time we went across the pond, when we did the med, we did northern Europe, I'm like, well, we could just stop in London first and do. And do this. [00:19:14] Speaker C: And we didn't. [00:19:15] Speaker D: We didn't. It never worked, but it worked this time. And usually when you have the blessing of living with a travel advisor, usually Gail takes care of all of the details. I dug in deep on this trip, and we had several conversations around a Google shared Google Doc, sort of figuring out what we wanted to do. And so the big highlight of London was that Harry Potter, the deluxe tour of the Harry Potter studios, and Then everything else just sort of filled in. [00:19:49] Speaker B: Slide, please. [00:19:52] Speaker C: Love it. [00:19:54] Speaker A: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. [00:19:56] Speaker C: Go back, go back. [00:19:56] Speaker A: I'm trying, I'm trying. I'm trying to go back. Let me see if I can go back. There it is. [00:20:02] Speaker C: There we go. Have you seen these witches? I love that, by the way. [00:20:05] Speaker A: Just. Just a reminder for everyone who is listening to this after the fact, I will reiterate. Head over to YouTube so you can get the full effect of these shows, because our guests have been wonderful in preparing slide decks and photos and things like that. So you really try to use that visual format to tell these stories. So, yes, keep going. [00:20:22] Speaker C: This is clearly here. I just got to first point out, but in the upper left hand corner, right next to Brian, is the have you seen these witches Poster, which is Gail and Kara posed. And you too, if you go to Warner Brothers studio tour outside of London, can get your can get this picture made as well. It's awesome. Wait, Ryan, stop. [00:20:43] Speaker A: I hit the button. I've gone back. All right, I will take care of it. [00:20:47] Speaker C: All right, ladies, tell us. Tell us what the deluxe tour includes, because I don't think we did the deluxe tour. I think we just did the regular studio tour. [00:20:56] Speaker D: So Gail gave us this incredible gift of this amazing trip. And I decided, hang on. [00:21:03] Speaker B: You know how your onboard booking opens at midnight, and you're like, I have to be there. I have to be there. [00:21:09] Speaker D: So I stocked these tickets like it was my job to make sure that the day our. Our planned day opened that we could get the deluxe to the deluxe tour. So the way the deluxe tour works is you're in groups of six, and so there are only about. There are less than 100 people a day that can do the deluxe tour. And so you get to come in, you have breakfast in the food hall. It's served, sit down with a menu. So it's very nice. [00:21:38] Speaker B: It's roped off. It's velvet roped off. [00:21:40] Speaker D: Very, very nice. [00:21:41] Speaker C: Wow. [00:21:42] Speaker D: And then you get to take a private tour. Our guide, Gigi is shown in one of the pictures there. The top right next to Gail's pancakes. [00:21:52] Speaker C: Next to the food. [00:21:54] Speaker D: I cannot say enough. We've done a lot of behind the scenes and deluxe tours and things like that. Gigi was on par with the guides we've ever had in any experience. So shout out to Gigi and all of the Interactors that are there at the Harry Potter studio. So we got to do a tour with her where she went behind all the velvet ropes that put on the gloves and Picked up the things and we got to see them really close. Alan Rickman's hair in the movie wasn't actually black. It was sort of brown. It's very interesting to learn all these little details. We actually got to sit on the set of the Gringotts Bank. So that's one of the photos as well. I love the tables with the feather quills in our hand, writing in the ledger books. We got one of the many mint. One of the few minted points that was minted for the film, specifically with the green guts logo on them. So we get to bring one of those home each. And then after the deluxe, how long. [00:22:52] Speaker B: Did the tour take? [00:22:52] Speaker D: So it's about three and a half hours for the deluxe tour with Gigi. And then we got to go back in again on our own. And that's where we got the picture of us at the door of the Great hall, which is exclusive to the deluxe tour. It's the only way you can get it is if you do the deluxe tour. And the great thing about that, second time through, not only did we already kind of know, well, we want to spend more time at the potions classroom or we want to spend more time at Dumbledore's office, we also got to skip the line. So anywhere there was a line, if we just walked up with our little deluxe to our lanyards on, we got. [00:23:29] Speaker B: To skip every single picture of video. The Hogwarts Express. [00:23:34] Speaker C: Oh, my goodness. Well, and those lines can be long. If you want to do. There's some cool videos. The next slide where you're going to see this really cool video. But there's these cool, like, places you can take your picture or get a video or do like. Or have the broom. You tell the broom to come up and the broom gets into your hand. So there's these interactive things that you can do throughout the exhibit, and those all have lines to wait for, so you get to skip. Wow. That's all right. [00:23:57] Speaker A: So I'm gonna go to the video. [00:23:59] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, we gotta go to the. I don't know if the sound is gonna come through for the audience. [00:24:03] Speaker A: Well, we're gonna. We're gonna find out. Looks like maybe not. [00:24:07] Speaker C: It is not. But that's okay. That's all right. [00:24:13] Speaker A: All right. For everyone at home. We were watching. Yeah, we were watching Kara fly through the streets of London on a broom right now, which is amazing. No hands there. [00:24:22] Speaker C: No hands. She's dodging traffic. [00:24:24] Speaker A: Did we do this? [00:24:25] Speaker C: We did this, Brian. Yes. [00:24:27] Speaker A: How did we not get this video did we. [00:24:30] Speaker C: I think we did get one of the videos. I think we did get the videos. Yes. Yes. I don't think we. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we did, but I don't know. [00:24:38] Speaker A: This is amazing. [00:24:39] Speaker C: I know. [00:24:40] Speaker A: This is amazing. [00:24:41] Speaker C: I think I have it downloaded on my phone somewhere. Yeah. [00:24:44] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:24:49] Speaker C: Oh, my goodness. [00:24:50] Speaker A: All right, all right, I'm going to keep us going because we still haven't gotten to the ABD yet. And that's. [00:24:54] Speaker C: Now she's at Hogwarts Castle. Okay, well, okay, so here's the transfer to an in Amsterdam because obviously you were going from London to Amsterdam and then. [00:25:05] Speaker A: Wait, I have one important question about London. Did you or did you not get afternoon tea? [00:25:11] Speaker B: We walked past your Fordham and Mason and I took a photo because we were after chocolate that day. [00:25:20] Speaker C: Okay. [00:25:21] Speaker A: All right. All right, we're gonna wrap it up there, folks. Thanks for. [00:25:23] Speaker C: See you later. See you next week. [00:25:27] Speaker A: All right, so we make it to Amsterdam. Super curious what you did, but also curious. Did you, did you do the pre stay through ABD or did you book this on your own? [00:25:37] Speaker B: We did that independently. [00:25:38] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:25:39] Speaker A: Okay. Okay. So you didn't stay at the ABD provided hotel or what? Okay. All right, cool. All right, tell us about Amsterdam. [00:25:47] Speaker B: Kara again dug really hard in. She found a food tour. Food tours are one of our things that we try to do everywhere. [00:25:55] Speaker C: Yes, you always do a food tour. [00:25:57] Speaker B: I'm the control freak. So I was a little uncertain, certain, but life was so busy. I just needed to let that go and let her do that again. It was one of the most amazing food tours. Shout out to roman. Yep, like 18Americans on this tour. He kept us all together. We stopped at at least eight different places. Eight different things. He talked non stop for like three hours. It was amazing. And then the other highlight, which was the most touristy thing you can do is this is Holland. And by the way, it is soaring over the Netherlands. Exact same. Right vehicle, the whole thing. [00:26:40] Speaker C: This is Holland. You know, there's one in Seattle too. And there's one I think in Vancouver, B.C. as well. Oh, I didn't know there was one. Yeah, so the one in Seattle is called Wings Over Washington and it is also like almost, almost identical. Not, not identical because the ride vehicle is slightly different than the Soarin one, but it is the same concept and the same type of screen and all that. Yeah, so I love that. Awesome. This is Holland. Okay, well, we're going to be as we, you know, we're talking about pre show and as folks are aware, our adventures by Disney is not this exact itinerary because ours is not the tulip one, because ours is in July, not in. In April or May. And so we are. Tulip season is a short season. We have tulip season here in, in. In Western Washington as well. And it's about the same time of year as it is in Holland, but it is, you know, it's a short. It's like a month long, so it's not July, so. So it'll be a slightly different itinerary, but I think there's quite a bit of overlap, so I think we're going to have to do this as Holland. And I'm sure Nathan would love that. That sounds awesome. [00:27:48] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:27:48] Speaker C: Fantastic. All right, Brian, give us the next slide then. All right, so here's the. The short sort of mapping of where you guys are going. And this is. Tell us. [00:28:01] Speaker D: You're. [00:28:01] Speaker C: You're on, like, different tributaries, right? It's not like you're on a single river. You're on a bunch of little tributaries throughout this whole thing. [00:28:09] Speaker D: Absolutely. [00:28:10] Speaker C: Awesome. [00:28:10] Speaker A: And I'm curious for these ports, how. Which ones did you get, like, actually up to the city too? And which ones did you have to like? Because, like, like on our last abd, there were a couple where we stopped at a lovely little town on the river, and then we were bused like an hour and a half to two hours into Salzburg and things like that. So I'm Chris. [00:28:29] Speaker C: Yeah, I think we'll be able to see that when we get. Because they've got us on a day. A day by day slide. So I think we'll like. Yeah, we'll definitely hit that, but I feel like we should. This is a great sort of overview to show folks visually. This is where this, this, this goes. And this, as I said, it's very, very similar to, to our itinerary as well. [00:28:50] Speaker A: I'm curious which stops we don't have off this itinerary. [00:28:53] Speaker B: Sam, you don't have Middleburg and you don't have Horn, which we technically didn't. [00:29:01] Speaker A: Yeah, I was so curious about Horn because it looks like you're on a lake and not a river, so. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. All right, keep going. [00:29:10] Speaker C: Yep. Look at these beautiful transitions. I didn't think these would work. I said, don't bother with the transitions. And Gail and Kara were like, look at the. I don't care. [00:29:20] Speaker A: Look at the ABD pin. [00:29:21] Speaker C: Hello. [00:29:23] Speaker A: Hello. That's what it says for everyone at home. It says, hello. Why is it still going? No, no, no, no. Go back. There we go Oh, I hope it's not on auto. [00:29:30] Speaker C: Yeah, that's all right. So this is you guys getting onto the Amalusia. Now how, how was this actually in Amsterdam or was this like outside of Amsterdam? [00:29:42] Speaker B: So this was Amsterdam, literally out the backside of the train station. [00:29:47] Speaker C: Oh, wow. That's awesome. [00:29:50] Speaker D: It's a cruise ship terminal that's right adjacent to the train station. And when our car, we took the car from our hotel to the train to the station and he actually drove us right up to the ramp going into the ship. [00:30:05] Speaker C: Awesome. That's amazing. Now you were on the Amalusia, which as we've mentioned, is the ama. It's an ama. [00:30:12] Speaker A: I'm going to take this down and see if I can fix this transition. [00:30:15] Speaker C: So you're on the Amalusia, which is, as we've talked about, an AMA Waterways ship. That's the partnership that Adventures by Disney has. Disney doesn't own their own river cruising ships. So you're talking about another company called AMA Waterways. You can actually book river cruises directly with AmaWaterways. But the cruises that are Adventures by Disney, everyone on the ship has booked through Adventures by Disney. So you're not going to have a mix of ABD people and just direct book people. They charter basically the entire vessel. Tell us how many people were on the Amalusia or approximately. We don't need obviously exact number. And tell us about adventure guides versus the the ship staff because I think folks who haven't listened to us talk about Adventures by Disney probably don't know those differences. [00:31:05] Speaker B: So it was a sold out cruise, which we knew it was going to be. That's why like booking was so very important. All Americans. [00:31:16] Speaker C: Oh, interesting. [00:31:17] Speaker B: And would have guessed that a lot of people had come from DCL into abd. Like we talk about how that's like the feeder. That was true for some people. But there were a number of people on our cruise who had done like 20 avds and had never set foot on the cruise line. [00:31:38] Speaker C: Wow. [00:31:39] Speaker B: Almost all adults. There were probably what, three or four families that had kids. And then we had five adventure guides. So as you mentioned, those are the only people on the ship that are Disney employees. So we had Michaela, Gina, Shannon, George and Clement as our adventure guys. [00:32:04] Speaker C: George and Shannon, we, they were our guides as well. We had three other guides with us on our river cruise, but love them. And I will tell you that I saw Shannon did like our post on Instagram telling, you know, announcing this episode. So maybe she might be watching live. If you are watching Shannon, we love you. We miss you. We hope anyway. Awesome. Okay, so and then you've got of course the amazing staff of AMA Waterways as well. And they're the ones who run everything that you know for the ship. So that's your. Your stateroom attendance, your bar staff, your dining staff. It's not like it's much smaller ship than large ship cruising. So there are people who sort of serve more than one role, like the bar staff. You'll see them like pouring wine at dinner and whatnot. But let's. So about how many people is it like 150 something or so? [00:33:00] Speaker B: Like about 150. It might be more because of the kids. And you know that some of those rooms will accommodate three. So we were probably. Well, they told us on board that it maybe was 146, something like that. [00:33:13] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, pretty. So like you said, full, full ship. And then your first day you get on board, they bring your luggage on board. Tell us what else you do. [00:33:25] Speaker B: That first day we really just had meetings, briefings, dinner. We didn't really have anything else that day. [00:33:34] Speaker D: Yeah. If we would have. If we would have realized there was a little bit of confusion about what time we needed to be on the ship. Had we realized that we really didn't need to be on the ship until three, we probably would have gone later and maybe done a little bit more around Amsterdam. So that was a, you know, first timer sort of error. But there was just some confusion around that in the communications we got, so. [00:33:56] Speaker B: Oh, one more thing I will add for Nathan at the Amsterdam Lego store, they do have a minifig factory. [00:34:03] Speaker D: So. Yes. [00:34:06] Speaker C: Gotta. Gotta make your Amsterdam minifig. I would love that. [00:34:10] Speaker A: I'm curious, so when we did our river cruise, the picking of the adventures, did that happen? So for us it was like the night before there was a Google Doc and we went in and put our preferences in. Did they have you do anything in advance for your excursions? [00:34:26] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:34:26] Speaker A: Excursions, yeah. How far in advance? [00:34:28] Speaker B: 45, I think days. And then. [00:34:31] Speaker A: Wow. [00:34:32] Speaker B: We could have changed them when we got on board, but we. We made one adjustment. But that will become evident along the way. [00:34:40] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:34:41] Speaker A: Was that online or did you have to call in? Like how did you make the. [00:34:46] Speaker B: Yes, we had to call. [00:34:47] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:34:47] Speaker A: Okay. [00:34:48] Speaker C: All right, awesome. All right, so there's sip and sail for folks who don't know what sip and sale. That is basically happy hour. It is like an hour, usually the hour before dinner. The time that it is can change based on what time dinner is based on what excursions are happening that particular day, but it is the time where the drinks are included, so is one thing to pay attention. [00:35:09] Speaker D: And they did have a pretty decent mocktail as well as a cocktail. Cocktail every night. [00:35:14] Speaker C: Oh, awesome. [00:35:14] Speaker D: For those don't drink. That is an option as well. [00:35:17] Speaker A: Yeah. I was gonna say sip and sale. Sam was like a cocktail that they had pre concocted. [00:35:22] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:35:24] Speaker A: We did not have open bar. [00:35:25] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. It's not. It's not open bar. True. But it's like. Yeah, it is. [00:35:29] Speaker A: It is wine and whatever cocktail they had for that evening. And if you wanted something different, then you had to pay for it. [00:35:35] Speaker C: Yes, yes. All right, let's go to the next slide. Look at the beautiful transition. Okay, so this is the next day we have Brian. There's two slides for every day thereafter. So we'll start with this one. Sailing, tulip fields, and camping. Tell us what this day was about. [00:35:53] Speaker A: Oh, my gosh. And c' est say cheese. And that's Remy and Emil. [00:35:57] Speaker D: Yes. So the other thing about this cruise, because it was the inaugural and because it was the only one of this season, they were very clear with us that some of the pins we got were exclusive to this trip. So that was exciting as. As pin people. We had two mornings back to back. So day two and day three both started out the same way. And we just had sailing mornings, which we did not know is very unusual on a river cruise. We were very grateful to have those because this was a very active trip. You're going from before 8am until after 5pm nearly every day. So it was nice to have this slower time. And on this, we had cheese. We had a cheese tasting, obviously. We had done cheese tasting in Amsterdam. This was still fun, and it was kind of a cute little thing. And our photo contest for the day was actually themed say cheese. That was the photos that we put in. So if you want to go on to the next slide, Brian, we'll start to answer your question about sort of where we docked in town versus where we docked away. So we actually did dock in a small town here called conventional. I don't think we included any slides of it, although we did walk around in Compton after we got back from the tulip field for a few minutes. It was about a 25 minute bus ride to this tulip field. And this tulip field was actually owned by a woman who was sitting across from her husband one day, and she's like, I want to start a tulip picking garden that people can come to and pick tulips and so this was sort of the. The quintessential gorgeous. [00:37:33] Speaker B: My goodness, unusual because normally you are not allowed to go into a field or pick the tulips. [00:37:39] Speaker D: Right, right. So this was, this was sort of the moment I had, I had always wanted to do when I went on tulip time. So there were some tears as we entered the field and then we had a great time. We had incredible weather. The almost the entire trip. We had one day that was chilly and rainy, but as you can see, we had blue skies, beautiful sun. And one of the great things is the adventure guides do take pictures for you as well. So not only did we take a lot of pictures of one another and just pictures the tulips, but they also took that great picture of the two of us there in the center too. And then. [00:38:15] Speaker C: That is such a great picture. [00:38:17] Speaker D: It is, it is. Gail did manage to steal a paddle of power. [00:38:21] Speaker A: I saw that. [00:38:23] Speaker D: I lead around with these little multicolored paddles and I don't remember what the specific circumstances were. [00:38:31] Speaker B: We were on the bus and it was just sitting there and I was like, I got to take this opportunity while it is here. [00:38:36] Speaker C: Yes. The paddle of power is so on land based ABDs, it is always orange, I believe, because that's the ABD color. Right. And that's the ABD logo is that kind of star pattern thing. But on river cruising ones, they have different colors. They have like five different colors because they do break you up into different groups for the different excursions. And even if you're going the same excursion, it's too many people to keep 146 or 150 people together. So they'll usually break you up into, you know, groups of 30ish or whatnot. And so they have the same, these paddles and I have a picture of myself holding one as well. Because there is nothing better than the feeling of holding that paddle of power because it means you are in charge, basically. [00:39:23] Speaker B: I love it. I love it. So the other thing about this field is we did get to pick up to 10 tulips and they had already provided paper. So we just wrapped it, put our names and our stateroom number on it. They transported the flowers back to our staterooms and they had provided vases in our rooms for them. [00:39:43] Speaker C: That is incredible. I mean, because, you know, in a large ship you can't bring flowers from shore on board. And so if the only flowers you could have in your stateroom are ones you've ordered from the cruise and I mean, there's nothing better than tulips. Tulips are actually my favorite flower, and so I would love to pick tulips from a tulip field and have them in my stateroom for the rest of the tour. That's amazing. That's fantastic. [00:41:11] Speaker C: Awesome. [00:41:12] Speaker A: Okay, waffles, My favorite thing. Waffles. [00:41:14] Speaker C: Shrimp waffles and Belgian waffles. Okay, so here is a day. Flexibility. You say here and you went to. Yeah. [00:41:21] Speaker B: Tell us a recall from savory versus sweet. So I'm obviously the sweet person in here. So this was my event. So we sailed in the morning. We had our cruise director who really did not cook and was very sort of expressive about his not cooking. And so we each got to taste and compare. But we were supposed to dock in Middleburg and we were planning to always do Middleburg on our own. I don't remember what everybody else was doing because this wasn't stealth day. [00:41:58] Speaker C: Yeah, I don't know. [00:41:59] Speaker B: So we had planned a few places to go and then we got delayed in the locks overnight. Is that this day? Yeah, that was that day. And so they said, well, we're not docking in Middleburg. We're going to this other town that neither of us are going to try to pronounce. And they said, well, you can still go to Middleburg, but it's going to be 45 minutes. Bye, bus. And we said, thank you. No, we will not be going to Middleburg. And this was the day that, for those of you watching that, it was kind of rainy and not great. And this was a very tiny marina kind of town. And it was a Monday, which in Europe is kind of different. It looked like Sunday in the States, which meant there was nothing open and nothing was going on. So we walked around for probably 10 or 15 minutes and then just got back on the ship. And that was okay because, again, is a busy schedule. We were coming out of London and we appreciated the time to recoup. [00:42:59] Speaker C: I'm going to try and say it. Hello, votes. Louis. [00:43:02] Speaker D: I think it's hellevichless. [00:43:04] Speaker C: Hellevichlist. Okay. There you go. All right. Love it. All right. [00:43:08] Speaker D: A lot of Googling to figure out where we actually work. [00:43:12] Speaker C: Well, and. But the message here is sometimes you have to be flexible because there are things that, like locks or river levels, there are things that impede their, you know, the ability of you to go to a particular port stop. And so sometimes things get rearranged. Sometimes they do just bus you, though, if you had an excursion planned. Oftentimes they will charter the buses that will, you know, you'll dock wherever you can dock, and then they'll charter buses to take you to whatever the excursion was that you're supposed to go to. All right, let's go to the next slide. Brian, I love this. Go with the flow. [00:43:48] Speaker A: There we go. [00:43:50] Speaker B: Oh, it's just still me. [00:43:51] Speaker D: Yep, this is still you. [00:43:53] Speaker B: I was very much looking forward to Belgium. I. E. Waffles. I eat chocolate. So we did these two tours. So this is where we started in the schedule where we had two tours a day, every day for the rest of the cruise. So we did lots of walking. You'll see. We took the canal cruise, and it was really windy this day, so it wasn't 100% the best. And then the afternoon we had the nibbling tour, where we had candies and we went to a chocolate shop and, yeah, we just sort of toured around Ghent. I think I had higher expectations for Ghent than what we had. [00:44:36] Speaker D: Yeah, I agree. I agree. Ghent, it was beautiful, but it just wasn't as. As interesting as I think either one of us thought it was going to be, so. [00:44:47] Speaker C: Okay, fair. All right, Brian, next slide. [00:44:52] Speaker A: I did want to point out. I want to go back for a second. I do want to point out that a couple times now you all have managed to find some really interesting, like, Disney touches here. And There. [00:44:59] Speaker B: And these are from the tour to that. Street art. [00:45:03] Speaker C: Yeah. I love it. Yeah. [00:45:05] Speaker A: I also noticed earlier in your. It looks like you were watching perhaps one of the Iron man films in Iron Man 2. [00:45:12] Speaker D: Yep. [00:45:12] Speaker B: In Doc. Yeah. [00:45:15] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:45:16] Speaker D: Which we can both say the words to in English, so we didn't really need the audio. [00:45:19] Speaker B: We've also seen Captain America in can. In French Canadian, so. [00:45:24] Speaker C: Oh, love it. All right, fair enough. [00:45:28] Speaker B: So this is our second stop in Belgium. And so this time we were taken to a tulip garden, which was both a traditional European garden and it also had a. More of a British garden on the other end of it. And we literally just had free time to meander about. So besides the outdoor, the pictures at the bottom that look like are kind of in a greenhouse, and they were set up in these greenhouses where they just had what I would consider, like festival setups. [00:45:59] Speaker C: Oh, cool. [00:46:00] Speaker B: Sort of just different backgrounds and displays of the flowers that they had been there. [00:46:07] Speaker C: Is that like a. Supposed to be a bumblebee all the way to the bottom, right? Okay. [00:46:12] Speaker A: Yes. [00:46:12] Speaker D: They told she was like the mascot, and they told her story all the way through these. I don't remember what her name was, but, yeah, it was very cute. [00:46:20] Speaker C: That's awesome. What a beautiful place. Well, and I like. I mean, the pictures are great. Like, Kara, you're a butterfly. Gail, you're in front of, you know, umbrellas. It's like, very. And then, like, what? It looks like a large rose. Yeah, it's very, very pretty. All right, let's go to the next slide. Brian. [00:46:40] Speaker B: So we had afternoon in Antwerp, and this was the tour I was looking most forward to. Waffles Beer tour. I'm going to tell Brian there's going to be a big disappointment at the end of this. So. Hold on. [00:46:54] Speaker A: Not about the beer. Not about the beer. Keep going. [00:46:59] Speaker B: You're so good at this. You know, they took us around the city. Great, great storytelling. We went into a very quaint shop that they had obviously prepared for us to be there with coffee and traditional Belgium waffle, which are very light, they're very crisp. They tend to only do powdered sugar. There's no syrup, there's no toppings. It's not like American layers of waffle. It's just very distinct about that. We went to this chocolate shop, and the gentleman in the picture who is telling us all about the chocolate, apparently he does the chocolate for some of the, like, most well known chocolatier for Belgium. Poor guy was all by himself in the shop. So he was trying to manage us and normal customers. [00:47:54] Speaker C: Oh, wow. Yeah. [00:47:55] Speaker B: Did a wonderful job. We had our tastings and I was like, this is it. This is it. This is like high quality chocolate. We knew we wanted to get boxes for different people to come back home. And so as we were sort of waiting, coming and going, you'll see. Kara also had a powder paddle of power. Paddle of power moment. [00:48:16] Speaker C: I see you have the purple paddle of power, Kara. I love it. Yeah. [00:48:20] Speaker B: But because we wanted to get chocolate for each of us and our families and my boss, we did not continue on the tour to get the beer. [00:48:29] Speaker C: You skipped the beer? [00:48:33] Speaker D: No. [00:48:33] Speaker C: You don't drink anyway, Brian. [00:48:36] Speaker A: Fair enough. [00:48:37] Speaker D: She doesn't drink at all. And I can't drink still because my numbers aren't where they need to be post chemo. So it just made more sense for us. And then we had some more time on our own in Antwerp. [00:48:48] Speaker C: I mean, if I'm doing chocolate versus beer, I'm choosing chocolate also. [00:48:53] Speaker B: Well, it was great because we waited for our whole, whole, our whole tour group to leave the shop. And so we have the shop owner to ourselves. [00:49:01] Speaker D: And he was just delightful. Shout out to Michelle. He was absolutely delightful. [00:49:09] Speaker A: Do you know, for the beer portion. Do you know, like, were they going to like, like where were they going? Do you know? [00:49:15] Speaker D: So I heard later that they went to like a, a microbrewery of some sort and had. They had, I think like six different light. Yeah, they had a great time. The ones who enjoyed the beer had a great time. [00:49:29] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:49:29] Speaker A: Probably like, probably much like us in the wine hall that we went to in, in Austria. [00:49:35] Speaker C: I would have, I would have sent Brian along to the beer and I would stay. And you know what? Beth agrees with me. She says she would skip the beer part in favor of chocolate, too. And Tracy says chocolate is. [00:49:48] Speaker A: Here's the problem. [00:49:49] Speaker C: I'm not a beer drinker though. [00:49:50] Speaker A: Yeah, no, no, but like, yeah, but, but again, this is like when we first met, you said, I don't drink red wine. And I've been trying to for years. There's so many different kinds of beer out there. [00:49:59] Speaker C: That's true. That's true. [00:50:00] Speaker A: If you're going to find one that you like, I will tell you that like a Belgian beer, it's, it's. Some of them are so close to. [00:50:06] Speaker C: Listen, I will, I will. When we, when we are in Belgium, I will try a Belgian beer. I will try a couple of Belgian. [00:50:14] Speaker A: I'll be reading for. I'll be rooting for you not to like them because then I Get double. [00:50:17] Speaker C: Then he gets. And he gets to drink my, my. [00:50:19] Speaker A: Like at like at like 15% alcohol by volume. Yeah, let's do it. Ye. [00:50:24] Speaker C: But I still. I will buy lots of chocolate. [00:50:26] Speaker D: That's the one with the elephant on the label. Brian, you want the one with the elephant? [00:50:29] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Delirium. Delirium Trimmings. Yes. The pink elephant. Yes. I'm a big fan of the Chimay and the Duvels. Yeah. [00:50:36] Speaker C: So, yeah, don't worry, Brian. Tracy saying you can have hers. [00:50:40] Speaker A: Tracy, get dangerous. I may not make it back on board. Everyone's beer on this tour. [00:50:46] Speaker C: I love it. All right, Brian, let's jump to the next slide. [00:50:49] Speaker A: All right, here we go. Go. Day 6 okay, so you didn't make it to Delft. [00:50:57] Speaker D: No, but that's okay because we were actually. So this is another day. Where to, Brian, to your point, if you were going to Delft, you now had to get on a bus. So everybody still got to go to Delft. Who wanted to go to Delft? But we had never planned to do any of the Delft stuff. We had, we really hadn't decided what we were going to do that day. So when we heard that we were actually going to dock in Rotterdam, we were like, yes. [00:51:24] Speaker B: Like, when I looked at our itinerary, that was the one thing that was missing that I really wish was in there. So we had some last minute changes that were hugely beneficial. [00:51:35] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. That's awesome now. Yeah. What did you guys get up to? [00:51:41] Speaker B: So, because we were on our own and we did dock like in the city, like right there, I would say on Lakeshore Drive in Chicago because that's what's closest to us. Like all of the major businesses and what seemed like the almost un section of the city was right there. And so had done some quick looking and I had always wanted to visit these cube houses and didn't realize they were going to be like right there. So we were able to walk, take the pictures. We paid what, like €6? [00:52:16] Speaker D: Yeah, I think so. [00:52:17] Speaker B: To climb up in them and just see how tiny and how they, they are all built. It's very interesting because you never know what direction the windows are going to be facing. If you're looking at the street or you're looking at the sky. And then we came out and what's on your tour is this food hall, market hall, something. They are literally across like, like this plaza from each other. Like I think about the way the old interventions was where there's just a whole bunch of what's in Seattle. [00:52:58] Speaker D: Oh, Pike's Place Market. [00:52:59] Speaker B: Pike's Place Market. We could just go in and get anything. There was a full grocery store in there, but all kinds of different international foods. [00:53:09] Speaker C: I love that. [00:53:09] Speaker B: And man, we were really close to going ahead and bringing home some cheese because we had some great cheese on this trip. [00:53:17] Speaker A: Clearly all the best cheese unfortunately is unpasteurized. [00:53:20] Speaker C: Yeah, you can't bring it home. You're not allowed to bring it home. [00:53:24] Speaker B: They told us that there were certain ones we could bring home. [00:53:27] Speaker C: Yeah, they probably. [00:53:29] Speaker B: I of course was most excited about the full size fresh stroopwafel that I have in my hand in that photo. And so we had a good times by a couple of hours. Yeah. [00:53:40] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:53:40] Speaker B: In the. Walked around and just came back to the ship. [00:53:42] Speaker C: Yeah, I love that. You know, for folks who haven't heard us talk about adventures by Disney before on Alma Waterways in particular, you can always choose to not do whatever the planned excursion or excursion offerings are and do, you know, things on your own. And if you have. Sometimes they'll have like a morning tour and an afternoon tour. You can always choose to do one and not the other, assuming it comes back in between. And you can always just relax on the ship like this. There. There's not like a ton of stuff to do on the ship like there might be. On a large ship you're not going to have like trivias and things like that. They're not going to be planned activities, but you can just like hang out in the lounge. You can, you know, sit in the pool or the hot tub if the weather's nice enough, you know, you can in the, in the lounge. They typically have like card games and things like that that you can borrow as well. So there is something to do. But it's not like they don't have a movie theater on board. They don't have, have. There is a spa that you can get a massage in, but they don't have like a full spa, full salon, that kind of stuff. So it isn't the same as being on large ship cruising, but it is a beautiful ship and you can just kind of hang out or take a nap in your room if you want to as well. [00:54:54] Speaker A: I. I wanted to call it. We have a bunch of comments here. I just want to. I want to make a point here. [00:54:58] Speaker C: More chocolate. [00:54:59] Speaker A: Everyone's. Everyone's like, I feel like I'm an. [00:55:01] Speaker C: Alcoholic or something like Ashley and down for travel. [00:55:06] Speaker A: Wasn't chocolate or beer. There was plenty of chocolate. [00:55:10] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, there was A choice for both. [00:55:11] Speaker A: There was a beer component. I'm just gonna say, if you have not tried Belgian beer in your life, like, this is a very, like, deep, rich, historic tradition. Trappist monks making beer. Like, it is very different than any of the beer that we have here in the US and so I, I still highly encourage folks if you're on this tour and, and if you drink, you. It's what Gail and Cary, you guys don't drink, so it's totally understandable. But, like, you know, you do just try a sip of Belgian beer. You'd be. I was, I was very surprised by it the first time I had it. And it's also high alcohol, so it sneaks up on you. But anyway, I just, I just want to point out, like, I'm a fan of chocolate too here. But like, in Belgium, there's a few things. Belgium, there's a few things they're known for. French fries being another one. So I got to know if you actually got some Belgian fries. [00:55:57] Speaker B: We did on the Amsterdam food tour. We had our frites. [00:56:00] Speaker D: Yes, yes, yes. [00:56:02] Speaker C: And we. [00:56:03] Speaker D: I feel like we had fries in Belgium one day too, but I don't remember where. Maybe I'm wrong. Yeah, but they, they were good. They were. The ones we had in Amsterdam were cooked in sunflower oil, so weren't. They were fine. They were fries. [00:56:19] Speaker A: It's sort of like donuts. There's not really a bad donut. There's just like good donuts and great donuts. Like, I mean, I'm not talking about the ones. The ones that come in the powdered packages and, you know, like, you know, at the gas station. I'm talking about like, like actual baked donuts. But. [00:56:35] Speaker C: Yeah, well, let's. Let's go to the. The last slide. Brian. [00:56:40] Speaker D: Yes. So then in the afternoon after we got back to the ship, so to Sam's point, we had the opportunity to do. And I have the wrong pen in there. We had the opportunity to go to Kinderdijk, which was another highlight for both of us, and see the windmills. We actually got to go in a windmill and we learned. I don't know if this is actually the origin story, but you don't want to be three sheets to the windmill. You want to have either two sails or four sales or zero sales. You don't want to have one or three because it throws off the way to the windmill. All of the windmills along Kinderdijk and all of the old style ones in. In Holland, in the Netherlands and Belgium. Now Are run by sort of volunteer millers. Millers who are on years long. I think it's 13 year long waiting list to get a spot in one of these now and to be able to live there and to use the mill and those sorts of things for the fun. [00:57:37] Speaker A: Wait, how many. How many did you supposed to have? [00:57:40] Speaker B: 13 years. [00:57:41] Speaker A: No, no, the sales. The number of sales. [00:57:43] Speaker D: Oh, you don't want to be three sheets to the wind. So you either want to have 0, 2 or 4. You want it to be an even number. [00:57:49] Speaker A: That's where it comes from. [00:57:50] Speaker D: I have no idea. But that's what they said they told us. [00:57:54] Speaker C: So I love it. [00:57:56] Speaker A: And it looks like we have some. Not clogs. [00:57:58] Speaker B: Yeah, those are the adventure guides and those are. Were slippers. [00:58:03] Speaker C: Oh, slippers. Cute. I love it. [00:58:05] Speaker A: Very cute. [00:58:06] Speaker D: And we got our own. Gail has her little set of bogs. [00:58:11] Speaker B: My little wooden clocks. [00:58:12] Speaker C: I got. Oh, so cute. [00:58:14] Speaker D: I got a stuff. But they have a flower in them, so I can't pick. [00:58:17] Speaker A: I should go back. The reason I was a bit distressed about Delft was for those who don't know, Delft is China. They make very well known China. So it's also an interesting place to go visit Sam and I might have to divide and conquer. I might go to Delft just because my mother collected Delft for a while. [00:58:35] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:58:36] Speaker B: There were a couple of different tours that people could go through to see how it was made. Others got to sit and actually paint their own tiles, so. [00:58:44] Speaker C: Oh, that would be cool. [00:58:45] Speaker D: Yeah. [00:58:46] Speaker A: Well then Sam should go there because I'm a terrible artist. [00:58:50] Speaker C: That's actually, you know, he's actually a very good digital artist, but not a good. [00:58:57] Speaker A: I am not a good digital artist, Sam. I. [00:58:59] Speaker C: You are. You are, you are. [00:59:01] Speaker A: I'm not hand drawing anything. [00:59:02] Speaker C: Not hand drawing. No, no. That's what I'm saying. Digital artists, like. Yeah. Anyway, so did you get to go. [00:59:07] Speaker A: Did you get to go in the windmills or no? Yes. Okay. [00:59:10] Speaker C: Oh, cool. Very cool. [00:59:12] Speaker A: Very cool. [00:59:13] Speaker C: All right. Number. Number. Day seven. This is it. [00:59:16] Speaker B: I mean the whole trip just built to this. [00:59:18] Speaker D: Yes. [00:59:18] Speaker A: So. Oh my gosh. The big. The giant clogs. [00:59:21] Speaker D: The giant clogs at Cooperhoff Garden. So we had. They described the tul. We started with that tulip picking garden and then we went to Floralia to that flower show. And so now we're back at Keukenhof, which is like the creme de la creme of tulip shows in Holland. And one of the things that we were worried about was that we Were not going to get there early enough to enjoy it because hashtag rope drop. Because Keukenhof is very much like Disney. If you don't get there right at rope drop, you are going to be in a sea of people and it's miserable. So thankfully they listened to that feedback. [00:59:58] Speaker B: Because we, we weren't the only ones who were bringing that up. [01:00:00] Speaker D: And I think we were on the buses by 8am and we were at Keukenhoff by 9, which is when it opened. And so we got about an hour and a half to two hours of really very pleasant time. We were there for about three hours. The last hour was there was a lot of people. [01:00:20] Speaker B: Sea of humanity was starting to see our press. [01:00:23] Speaker A: I can tell that like balcony on this windmill looks and that's actually very. [01:00:28] Speaker B: Early when we were there. [01:00:30] Speaker D: So if you look at pictures of that online, you. [01:00:32] Speaker C: It's just packed like a sea of people. [01:00:34] Speaker D: Yeah. So yeah. And we, we tried to do what we do at the parks. We went all the way to the back, all the way to the farthest corner and then work our way back. And that worked out very well for us. [01:00:45] Speaker C: We. [01:00:46] Speaker D: It's 30 some odd acres. We know there's a chunk we missed down in one corner, but otherwise we did a great job of seeing a great deal. And it's just. I cannot describe to you how beautiful the gardens are and all of the flowers, all the exhibits. There are four or five exhibit halls. There's one that's shown there that are also really beautiful. It was, it was just absolutely incredible. [01:01:15] Speaker A: So Beth is asking, do they offer the same tours in the morning and afternoon? So I didn't know how many of these were. [01:01:22] Speaker C: Yeah, depends on the day. [01:01:23] Speaker A: Yeah, someday it's like someday it's like all day tour. [01:01:25] Speaker C: Right. Well, but the answer, the answer for Delft was there was the morning was one of the pottery offering, china offering, and the afternoon was the windmill. So you didn't have to choose between them. You could do both. Obviously, Gail and Kara chose to skip the morning one and do the morning on their own. But there are some times, Beth, to answer your question, that you do need to choose either or. The good thing is when you get your choices, you will get the choices for the entire itinerary. And so you can kind of look and sometimes there will be things that are similar. Right. So like there might be more than one. For example, in, you know, Belgian Holland, there might be more than one excursion that involves windmills. And so you might decide, I'm going to do this windmill tour, but not that windmill tour. Right. So like there are options but there are occasionally times where you have to choose A or B. Like we had to choose. We didn't get to go to the see the symphony in Vienna and we chose to go to the winehouse because we didn't think that Nathan would really. It's funny now, I think now because he plays clarinet and he likes music more I feel like now, which, you know, we're a couple years later, maybe he could sit through the symphony. But two years ago that wasn't, that wasn't going to be a fun excursion with him. So. Yeah. So you, there is some choosing you have to do. There is some on your own time that might be built into the schedule. And there is of course also times where you can do, you know, choose half day on your own half day excursion and then there are some excursions where it is the full day and they'll tell you up front where what that, what that involves. So that's always really helpful. Now this was your last full day. [01:03:06] Speaker D: Yes. [01:03:07] Speaker C: I think this is the last slide. Am I right? [01:03:10] Speaker B: Is there one more? [01:03:11] Speaker C: I think there's more. Oh, there is one more. [01:03:12] Speaker D: Yeah, yeah. [01:03:13] Speaker C: Oh, there we go. More of the gardens. Beautiful. [01:03:16] Speaker D: So we did have a canal cruise in the afternoon. It was pretty anti climactic at that point. It was fine. [01:03:23] Speaker C: It was. [01:03:23] Speaker D: We had a lovely local guide and it was a nice, nice boat driver and a nice little canal stroll and it was enclosed. [01:03:30] Speaker B: It was glass enclosed. Which made the photography a bit of a challenge. Yeah, yeah. [01:03:35] Speaker D: But we had already done, I think that was our second turn around Amsterdam. So we just had seen a lot of it. So we didn't include any pictures of it, but it was fine. [01:03:44] Speaker B: The one little picture in here that looks that nobody is going to be able to see online, that looks like a placard actually. Notes. When Walt Disney was at Keukenhoff and christened some flowers so I had to go hunting for that. [01:03:56] Speaker C: That took a bit of. Oh, I like that. That's fun. That's a fun little, fun little bit of history and tying it all back to Disney, of course. Now I've got to ask you, your last night of the cruise when you're on board the ship waterways, did they do a little closing video or slideshow with pictures from across the. [01:04:18] Speaker A: Giving it away. Giving it away. It's a secret. [01:04:21] Speaker C: It's not a secret. [01:04:23] Speaker D: The night before we got to Amsterdam. [01:04:25] Speaker C: Oh, nice. [01:04:26] Speaker D: Since we docked in Amsterdam, they thought folks might want to go out that Night. [01:04:31] Speaker C: Gotcha. [01:04:31] Speaker D: So they did it the night before. [01:04:33] Speaker C: Gotcha. Nice. Okay. And then the next day is of course, disembarkation, where you have to sail home or sail home, fly home, whatnot, which is always sad. But did you guys stick around? [01:04:47] Speaker B: I think we were ready. [01:04:48] Speaker C: You're ready? Yeah. Because you had spent. Now you had spent already, you know, a couple nights. So a full day in Amsterdam on the front end. [01:04:55] Speaker B: Gone. [01:04:56] Speaker C: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a, it's a long trip and then you're ready to, to go home. I gotta ask, can I ask a few questions? [01:05:03] Speaker A: You've been doing the whole thing. I asked some questions. I asked some questions. Stateroom wise, how'd you find your stateroom on the ship? Storage, etc. And I mean, like, how much did you bring with you over there? [01:05:15] Speaker B: So we brought, we knew we brought more than we should have because we each had a small backpack, we each had a carry on and we each had a large, large bag. But there was a strategy because my carry on went almost completely empty and it came home with Legos and chocolate and it was almost completely full of all of those things. I had done a little bit of preparation with Kara and I said, our stateroom on Disney Cruise Line is this many square feet. Our abd stateroom is going to be this many square feet. But I think there still was a shock factor when we got in there. But we did just. What we do on Disney Cruise Line is we went, okay, we're unpacking. You have this section, I have this section. We are going to somehow get these bags under the bed. And it was fine because as you said, you're just going, going, going. You are literally in that room to sleep. [01:06:14] Speaker C: Yep. The rooms are very small. When you're used to a Disney Cruise Line size room, it is like they're beautiful and they're very well appointed. They're very like efficient use of space. But they are very small. When you're used to a large ship cruising room, even if you're comparing to other cruise lines that tend to have smaller rooms than Disney. [01:06:35] Speaker A: So how many, how many kids do you see a lot of kids? [01:06:38] Speaker D: There were about five. [01:06:39] Speaker B: Yeah, five. Five kids. [01:06:41] Speaker A: Yes. [01:06:41] Speaker D: So there was, there was one 15 year old. There was one 18 year old. So not kid, but 18. [01:06:47] Speaker B: 18. [01:06:48] Speaker D: And then there were three or four that were in that 10 and under range. [01:06:52] Speaker B: There were a couple that were like three or four. Yeah. Which seemed weird. [01:06:56] Speaker D: Yeah. [01:06:57] Speaker A: How was the overall? So it cuts a couple more questions for me. How was the overall feel of the ship did it feel. I mean, I don't know how old the Amalusia is. We were on the Amaviola. [01:07:06] Speaker B: I think it was. Yeah. It's a relatively new Amish. [01:07:09] Speaker A: Okay. All right. So probably still in pretty good condition. Food on board. Word. What did you think of the food on the ship? [01:07:16] Speaker D: We didn't starve. [01:07:20] Speaker A: But that's not a good start to. [01:07:22] Speaker D: The cheeseburgers were good. [01:07:24] Speaker A: Okay. [01:07:26] Speaker B: Otherwise, the cheeseburgers were probably the best thing that. Yeah, we had. I was not. [01:07:32] Speaker C: Not impressed with the food. [01:07:35] Speaker D: Not at all. The 1980s called and they want their plating back. Like, it just. It was not. Not. It was not a. It was not. If you went for a culinary experience, you did not get a good culinary experience. [01:07:47] Speaker C: Oh, that's a bummer. We had. We had quite good food. We thought on ours, but, you know, we were on a different ship. And you just never know who's running the kitchen at any given time. Tracy's asking a question. I. I know Brian, and I can answer. Evening dress code. The answer is there is none on Adventures by Disney Sailings. If you are sailing on AMA waterways, there is a dress code for the evening dining room room, but not on Adventures by Disney Sailings. No dress code whatsoever. [01:08:14] Speaker B: I think there was a higher expectation for captain's table, but otherwise. Correct. There. There really wasn't. People just came back to the ship and went straight to the dining room. [01:08:23] Speaker D: Yeah, we did it every time. We did. [01:08:27] Speaker A: I used to. I used to, like. Well, we went in the winter, so, you know, I was wearing pants and things anyway, but. But I. I also love to kick off my Gore Tex hiking sneakers and put on. Put on my comfy loafers for the evening. So, yeah, it was. It's walking and they know that you're going to be tired at the end of the day. So. Yeah. [01:08:46] Speaker C: I've got to ask, do you guys have another Adventures by Disney adventure booked now that you've done one? And then if not, would you book another adventure through Adventures by Disney? [01:08:56] Speaker B: So we knew you were going to ask this. We talked about it on the way home. I think what we agreed to is when you want to see these smaller locations inland, this is a great way to do it because you are not packing, unpacking, you're not spending all day on a bus. [01:09:14] Speaker C: Right. [01:09:14] Speaker B: Getting from place to place. But. And would I do it in other areas of Europe? Absolutely. Is it my new go to. No, I think it's the difference between pool people and beach people. You know what your fit is for that. And at least based on this experience, it was great. It was obviously also at a notably higher price point than cruise line or even the parks. And so I think all those things informed sort of our overall thoughts about it. [01:09:52] Speaker D: And we, I mean, we look at the itineraries as soon as a new set of itineraries drop and you know, we're texting each other once they drop and we're like, I don't see anything that just makes me go this. [01:10:02] Speaker C: Yeah, well, it's a very different kind of travel. Right? Like travel in Europe is very different than travel in the Caribbean or, you know, or even on, you know, know, the west coast and to Mexico. Right. Like, or Alaska even. Right. So it's all sort of different. And it's like, what is my. What kind of vacation am I looking for? Right? And if I'm looking for a European vacation, I think Adventures by Disney river cruise or land based ABD is a great option. But I also think if your family wants to do a beach vacation, then that's completely the wrong thing for you. Right? So like, I think it's really what are you looking for? But I agree with you, Gail. I think it's a great way if you want to see see parts of Europe that you are not going to be so easily accessible on a large cruise ship. [01:10:45] Speaker A: I don't know. Tracy's asking if you prefer land versus river cruise. And it sounds like from your answer, I mean, the answer is the river cruise is nice because you don't have to pack and unpack on a land based abd. You might have to bus. They. They sometimes do flights in between. I remember when we did the Egypt ABD discussion with Jennifer, it was like they flew from place to place. They took a boat for part of the trip. Like so you're like packing and unpacking over and over again so well. [01:11:09] Speaker B: And I think that what framed it very well for us early on, and we knew this, but it helped that it got said. Our adventure guide Michaela said, this is not vacations by Disney. This is adventures by Disney. [01:11:22] Speaker C: Absolutely. That's a really great way to put it. It is different than, yeah, it is a trip, it is an adventure. It is not the relaxing vacation. And that's what you're looking for then Adventures by Disney is not for you. Yeah. [01:11:37] Speaker A: Did anyone use the pool deck on the sailing? [01:11:41] Speaker D: Maybe? [01:11:42] Speaker B: So the evening activities, like whether it was the musician or there was a Family Feud style game or there was trivia, they kicked that off around like 9 or 9:30. And the sailing sloths needed their sleep, their beauty sleep. Your 8am call time the next morning. So. So we didn't partake in any of that. We did hear about some rambunctious activity one night though, so that led me to believe that the top deck did get used. [01:12:13] Speaker C: Yeah, that's hilarious. There are some really fun evening activities. They are as, as Gail mentioned, they are, you know, nine o' clock at night. And so if you are somebody who needs your, your sleep and there are some early morning calls for excursions, you may miss them or you might only hit some of them, which what we kind of did. I would say we hit some of them and didn't hit others. Yeah, yeah. [01:12:39] Speaker A: The other question is you mentioned at the very top about, you know, you had these morning sale opportunities. Those are unusual. Was the suggestion there unusual for river cruising in general or unusual for this itinerary on abd? Did you have any other, like any daytime sailing? [01:12:56] Speaker D: Yeah, I got the impression it was unusual for both. So I got the impression that this is not a traditional river cruising thing and it's not something ABD usually has, which I understand that. I mean if you're going to pay that money for an ABD trip, you want to, you want to do. You don't want to just sit and there were, I mean there's every range of ability level. On our cruise we befriended a couple who felt like, even like the biking tours that they offered were just too lame for them and they were like, we need to go run that at like an ironman this afternoon. And then there was a senior citizen couple who used their rollators and they were. [01:13:37] Speaker B: Well. And they had to add Slow Walker Tour one afternoon that wasn't on the schedule I think to accommodate some of that. [01:13:46] Speaker D: Yeah. So they tried to adjust and, and make it work around all of those different ability levels. [01:13:52] Speaker C: Yeah. [01:13:52] Speaker A: I mean, I'll just say the one thing I liked on our Danube river cruise is we did have a couple of, you know, I think we had one afternoon. [01:13:57] Speaker C: One afternoon. [01:13:58] Speaker A: One afternoon where they like, they sailed and we, we got to sit and relax and they, the captain would come. [01:14:03] Speaker C: On and see the. Going through a canal. That was cool because most of the time we were going through the canal, it was at night, in the middle of the night. So we couldn't. You couldn't see it. Right. This one time where we got to see. Or going through. Not canal, going through the locks. Sorry. Yeah, yeah. So that was cool going through one of the, you know, one of the sets of locks. And so that was our One afternoon sailing. But yeah, I think that makes sense. [01:14:24] Speaker D: I don't know if this is the same way on the Danube, but many of the boats that we passed on the waterways that we were on, you can tell that the people live on them full time year round. And I mean, these are like big working boats. They're not just little family boats. They were tankers and working with and they have a little crane that'll sit their car off if they do need to go on on land. So it was really interesting to see that kind of lifestyle. [01:14:53] Speaker C: Awesome. Well, thanks, you guys. We so appreciate you coming on. You know, as we wrap up here, I want to let Gail tell folks where they can contact her if they'd like to book a trip through Gail Hartler Road at Off to Neverland Travel. We were home for five days and I had vacation days to use by the end of my employer year. And I was looking for a deal that I found. So we were home for five days, booked a Disney Cruise Line that left 16 days after that. So we did another sailing since we went on this one, but we're. We're done, I think, for a few months at least. Yes. [01:15:49] Speaker C: All right. So taking a vacation from your vacations. [01:15:53] Speaker B: That's what we call it.
